Can Duncan The Black be killed?
I'm in Slavers' Exile. I have The Last Hierophant quest. The fifth part of the quest is to destroy Duncan the Black. Duncan the Black has an army of spirits around him. The henchmen are programmed to attack the spirits. They won't attack Duncan. Duncan replaces the spirits just as quickly as the spirits are killed. I tried pulling Duncan many times. He doesn't move. Before I leave, is there something I'm missing in this area that will help to kill Duncan?

i've only heard of it being done with players. one person goes and DIES beside duncan so you can use the necro Signet of Sorrow to kill him. but before u do that, another person uses the sin skill SWAP, to swap out as many spirits as you want to a location where they wont bother you. once you get the spirits out of the way, the necro can just signet him to death while being healed.

Like it has been said, you need to move (not kill) the spirits with Swap.
When they are at locations where they cannot interfere, you go in to kill Duncan himself. Degen skills like: Suffering, Rotting Flesh, Conjure Nightmare, Shrinking Armor and Summoning PvE skills like Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support combined with protection skills on the characters who have to go close to him, is the way to go. As always Wiki is good. Don't forget to check the Discussion page for each Dungeon/Quest/Mission (found above the head line) - there's usually good tips to be found there. |

to use signet of sorrow, can you just bring heroes and henchies - flag one hero next to Duncan and let him/her die?

The problem with that is the henchies would automatically use their rez on the downed hero. Unless you flagged henchies far back, and used one hero to heal the one that was up beside him. It could work I suppose

The trick was flagging him in the spot where spirits can hit him, I went next to Duncan to get myself killed and for the whole time I was microing him to cast [spoil victor][signet of sorrow] and [life siphon] for an added kick. The backfire from his monster spell triggered SV on every SoS hit. Meanwhile, Talkhora was keeping PS on him the whole time, and Gwen had [unnatural signet] with her every other skilled disabled so she could spam it endlessly, dealing with the spirits in front of the stairs easily. The whole party was flagged a little in the back to avoid Duncan's hit. As for henchies, I took Eve, Cynn and the 2 monks. It wasn't that slow, maybe 10 minutes? 15, maximum don't recall exactly. And lucky, found a screenshot I took to celebrate the event Last edited by kupp; Feb 03, 2009 at 10:04 PM // 22:04.. |

I used the above mentioned strategy to beat Slavers' with H/H.
-Cancel all the res skills -Kill someone next to him -Force cast Prot Spirit on your Necromancer -Flag him somewhere that he can cast on Duncan but not be hit by spirits -Micro Prot Spirit for 20 minutes -Win |

The SoS method is the fastest method. Make sure you kill all the touchers.
The way it was done in the beginning, before nobody figured it out, was to just ignore the spirits and everyone rush to Duncan and collectively kill him. Or, you could still swap out the spirits first. They are annoying. You still have to kill the touchers first. The ones on the side of the stage and in behind Duncan. BTW, facing the stage, you do not need to move the spirits to the left of Duncan. You only need to swap out the ones on the right. Last edited by Raku Clayman; Feb 03, 2009 at 10:37 PM // 22:37.. |

all skills that u really want to bring for duncan are:[swap],[spoil victor],[signet of sorrow],[protective spirit].

Y'all are telling me to use skills that I don't have. So it looks like there's no possible way for me to kill Duncan.

If you don't have the skills though, get them. Or you don't have Factions or NF? In any case, if you can find some way to deal with the spirits, with some smart flaging and plenty of patience I suppose you can kill him in a normal fashion. Swap would be great for that though, the constant spirits respawn makes killing them useless.

I H/H it a few nights ago.
All my heroes were Ray of Judgment smiters with one being Protection/Smite and one being Healing/Smite, brought Healing and Protection hench, Fire, and Mesmer. I got the Swap skill and went R/A... Moved all the spirits out of the way and then when I went to kill Duncan... I was in the middle and I flagged the henchies behind me, two heroes back a little to the right and one back a little to the left. Need to spread them out our Duncan's Rift will destroy you. I hit Duncan with Poison Arrow and Barbed Arrow (bleeding) and then I would micro the smiters to Ray him... he went down pretty fast. |

In HM with good team and cons it takes around 30mins to clear the dungeon and 10-20 mins to deal with duncan and his spirits. I tried once with h/h in NM, it took almost 2 hours lol.
So a good team can likely do it all in 30mins. My best advice is aggro carecully and always run a bit ahead and then back to awaken the popup spirits. A mob of summit together with 6 toucher spirits can wipe most teams. |

Took about 25 min total with 5 rojs 2 melee (me sin and a friend dev hammer) and a UA healer. Just ran up after killing the mobs and spammed RoJ on him. This was in HM as well.

When I H/H it in NM it took about an hour, but that is mostly because using Swap takes time and it was the first time I had ever done it... I was a little unsure on how far to move the spirits so in some cases I probably over did it - lol.

Went back and killed Duncan today. Swap was the only skill that I had to buy. Put spoil victor and signet of sorrow on Livia. Flagged Olias at Duncan. Had to res him twice because he would take a few steps away from Duncan after getting to the flag. Third time I kept reflagging him so he wouldn't step away from Duncan.
