Should I buy Guild Wars?
Hi everyone I'm new to the forums and am a WOW regular who is getting kinda sick of WOW. I have a friend who loves Guild Wars(hes been playing it since release) and suggested I give it a shot. I like both pve and pvp but I probably do pvp a little bit more. Also is pvp fun in GW?

Guild Wars is one of those games that you either love it or hate it. You should know before you try it that its more like a cooperative RPG than a MMO. Also you dont want to into pvp before you finish a campaign or read some starter guides because you will get owned by the old timers.

Don't listen to grieving forum minorities like these, who only moan and bitch and QQ about everything.
Get the game and play it, the vast majority is actually having fun instead of complaining in forums (which is ironic, since it's much easier to quit a game you hate than go waste your time complaining about it - but some people are so addicted it is just sad). |

As for the game in a whole, it is definitely worth a look. It's not as complex as WoW and doesn't offer all the features that WoW has, but it is still a great game on it's own. I'd suggest, like the others have already, to try the free trial so you get a first-hand experience yourself. |

The current cost compared to the amount of hours of play time you will get is an amazing value ;-)

Quoted For Truth
On topic: Buy it and see for yourself Its not exactly expensive to get the complete collection or the trilogy pack any more. Alternatively give it whirl on a trial account. Word of advice, dont try and jump straight into pvp. Its the reason alot of newcomers get put off. Unlock a load of skills complete a campaign or two then think about what your skill bar before jumping in. |

PvP is not completely dead, but getting to high-end PvP is a hard challenge. Most guilds that PvP REQUIRES high-end players. PvE on the other hand always is open for newer players. The free trial is your friend, if you get hooked don't expect a lot of super updates. Mainly because of GW2 focus, which previews has the side effect of jizzing your pants. |

dont start with the first game(Prophecies) or else you might bet bored within 30min and never play again. thats how i got my 2nd account lol friend got bored that fast.
bottom line, this game is kinda old, the enomony is wore out, players are very rude, you need to be a specific type of character to do much of the high end content, pvp is nothing but gimmick. after all this and you still want to play, try factions or nightfall first. |

At any rate, GW is pretty cheap now, and the free trial is ...free, so give it a shot. You can get a lot of play-time for very little money. Like a lot of veteran GW players, I will say that GW is basically burnt out and not the game it once was, but that's me - you're on-line experience may vary. |

Yes Guild Wars is a very good game. If you like RPG games with tons of quests, this is the game. It has 3 campaigns: Phrophecies, Nightfall, and Factions and 1 expansion: Eye of the North. There all fun in many ways.
You can play the free trial here: www.guildwars.com/freetrial You can buy Guild Wars here: https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/St...uage=en#group4 http://www.amazon.com http://www.newegg.com http://www.bestbuy.com http://www.walmart.com ...and many other stores. |

I would say, pick-up the complete GW collection and give it a go. It can be found online very cheap.
I started about a month ago on PvE and - most players are helpful - many guilds looking for members - never met a rude person It can be hard to find someone your lv at times, but its not too bad in general. PvP might be completely different, have not played that yet ... |

Obviously, don't expect any significant new content at this point-- but also realize that since you're just starting out, everything is new content to you, and there are three published campaigns and an expansion available. So while older players may be bored of it from having played it over and over, that doesn't necessarily make the content itself boring. (Personal taste may make it boring, sure, but that's not automatically a given. I'm a new player and really enjoying the game.) Grouping with other players is optional. So even if people are mean (not all of us are) it's totally possible to play with computer controlled NPCs and/or friends all the time rather than grouping with random strangers. I don't see any reason not to at least give it a try if you're interested. If you don't like it, you've only invested a small amount of time and money (no money at all if you do the free trial.) If you do like it, you'll have discovered a very economical way to entertain yourself for awhile. |
