Spell Caster or Weapons?
If weapons then: Warrior with a secondary of either ranger or monk. (don't use the monks healing, just have it in case there's a farm you want to do later) you can always change your 2nd prof later in the game. If spells then: Elementalist its all DPS but, you may die if your not paying attention. Or if you want bows then be a ranger, good midline, doesn't always die, has a pet (only really handy early on unless you spec with pets) and can spread conditions and interrupt. |

I'd say go with mesmer since you will probably end up less retarded that way.

Basically, first time through in Normal Mode, any class that sounds like you'd enjoy it. The game is not hard - it doesn't require you to play specific classes to succeed. But to narrow it down a bit, I'd say Warrior, Elementalist, Ranger, or Necro.

For a first character, I'd suggest either Necro, elementalist, warrior or Ranger. All of these are farly easy to play effectively. With a warrior you'll definitely have a pretty easy time for quite a while. Try a secondary of Elementalist, not for the spells but for the weapons enhancing (like conjure flame, etc). Also, monk isn't a terrible secondary for a warrior, but after a certain point you'll be using pretty much only warrior skills, so don't rely on monk skills to heal you much. Rangers also are fairly easy to play, but don't have as high damage with only prophecies skills. Good hunting. |

Rangers are a great midliner and first profession. They can do fairly good dps, the have good survivability (blocks, health regen, condition removal, blind), and can interrupt. Really awesome support class if you like that.
Also, you can make it a R/E for conjure flame and stuff. |

Necro is a good one, I've tried all prof's tbh Necro is my fav, kinda jack of all trades and master of some. My Nec is the one (toon) I have most fun with

I'd say warrior or elementalist for your first time through. Both can be dps machines and aren't hard to learn. Elementalists in particular are always in demand because of their area of effect nuking.
