Please I need Help ASAP, After today's fiasco of log in problems, I like many people changed my password in a attempt to log in. After they Fixed the issue, I logged in with no problem. Then when i was sure my account was ok, I shut down my pc and went to a friends house to play GW. When i got there i logged in and it says i have been banned for buying gold online. Now i have never nor will i ever buy gold online, I do not need to, I make plenty in game playing the game. The only thing i can think of is a guild member made a character with a name almost the same as mine, My Char name is Scar Giver X, and he Created a Char named , do not post character names, is it possible that he was buying gold online and anet thought it was me? I have contacted support with this issue. but a 72 hr ban for something i didnt do seems unfair, not to mention ruining my 1 gaming night a week with my friend.

weird....the name mix up is highly unlikely. my first thought was a hacker. just do the time its only 72 hrs. who knows u may have 1mil waiting for u lol.

Way to throw your friend under the bus.

You can do two things, something or nothing.

You can choose do to nothing and just wait out the time and be back to playing soon and then hope you never get caught in a "mistake" again.

Or you could do something and contact support to get some information,if you say you did not buy gold, then there might be two things that happened,one someone has access to your account and used it for that porpuse, in which case doing nothing can get you into trouble again, especially if you dont change your password.

Second support might tell you that no, they dont think anyone has gotten into your account, in which case it would mean that you were indeed caught in a mistake, but which also means there is not much you can do, just keep playing and hope you not get in trouble again, at least you will know the chances of someone having your account info is smaller.

Could there not be a 3rd option , as in Anet made a mistake? For one thing i just changed my password, right before i got banned, because of the log in issues. Secondly as i stated i don't buy gold online, i don't need to, and i play this game because its free. Is it possible that Anet during the log in mess up, and due to the fact i changed my password, Anet thought i was doing something fishy and in a knee jerk reaction banned my Account. Because they could not have actually looked at my account or they would have seen i do not buy gold. Seems the Ban button is a little to easy to push, and no check or confirmation needed to ban someone.

Contacting support is the only thing that you can do. There's nothing that anyone on the forums can do to help.

I had the same problem a while ago ... middle of a foundry run i DC-d and attempting to log in got the same message as the poster did.
Dint buy gold nor did i trade with a gold seller.
Contacting the support would be the only smart thing for you to do but dont hope for 24h solution took me 4 days to clear it. but it ended like this :
After reviewing the issue, it appears that your account was blocked in error. Your account is now released and you should be able to log in to Guild Wars. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The mark was removed from the account and the gold has been returned. If you have additional questions, please let us know.
I had to wait the 72h ban out tho so only downside of the whole mess.

I had the same thing happen to me a while ago(2 years I think). After a few back-and-forth messages with support, they refused to back down and said I traded with a gold seller. For all I know, I did trade with an account used for gold selling but, if so, it definitely was not to buy gold. I just gave up, served the time, and got back to playing when I could.

Just contact support, they will look into it and fix it.

This isn't as bad as you think, one weekend anyone who bought something from the online store got perma-banned (Including me), they fixed it and everyone that used the store got their items free.

It is highly unlikely that it was some kind of mistake because of the login issues.
Gold buying doesn't look any different from normal trading in the techincal sense,so there would be very little for them to confuse in that way.

It also is very unlikely that its because of someone that has a similar name to you causing the problem,to start the names you posted are not similar in a sense that that they can be confused just because you use a "C" and your friend used a "K".Your character name most likely doesn't even apear in any way that they can clearly read it, and your account is most likely just account 238-dDue-1344-DfiT or something like that.

You probably will not be able to get the account lock removed before the time has passed and you should not aim to do that, as it will be effort wasted, instead you should try to clear your account of any unwarranted marks,because before you know it you could be deserved problems and you shoulnd't have to carry a mistaken mark.

It seems very unlikely that you would get only 72 hours for a serious violation like buying gold online..
