Can a guildless person get a invite into a guild if the guildless person is offline? Of does he/she need to be online to recieve the invite?

i haven't played that much. afaik yes you can get an invite even if your online just press G in any town or outpost to access the guild windows and you can either accept on invite.

P.S. correct me if i'm wrong

Nope, you're right. You can be invited, but you won't be in the guild until you come on line to accept the invitation.
