Texmod- is using it risky?
Now, I know that offically Texmod is allowed..however, I've seen lots of people complaining they were banned even though they were only using texmod and nothing else. With supports current stance on unbanning if you did get banned for using Texmod you can kiss your account goodbye. So, do any people here use Texmod on a regular basis since the grand banning? Have you encountered any troubles?

I'd be a bit sceptical about all the "I've only been using texmod!" claims, especially sinca quite a few people who still use it have NOT been banned (you'll find an example in almose every big threead on the banning topic).

i would be VERY careful about it or wait until all of this botting crap blows over. and keep in mind that some of these people who claim all they did was use texmod may just be attempting to use it as a cover up for more shady activities that they don't mention.

ITS NOT RISKY AT ALL
How many times do we have to answer the same question. Texmod is a hoax. When you get banned, what will you say, "I swear I didn't do anything". No, you will continue cheating and lying; "I only used Texmod, I swear, it's really possible that you only detected texmod, honest." The chance that you get banned because of texmod is lower than the chance of a car running over you in the street. If you want to be "careful" and "safe", just kill yourself. It's the only proven method. No accidental ban ever happened to the people in the grave, and cars don't run over them. Last edited by The Josip; Jun 03, 2010 at 12:45 PM // 12:45.. |

We don't know that for sure though do we? For all we know at least some of those people are telling the truth.

In the past, my wife's account was banned because some money she received in trade for an item had recently been in circulation through a gold farmer's pockets. Now, she got her account unbanned within a few days, so it was all well and good.
However, when I mentioned it within the GW community, everyone pulled this card. "Oh sure. She didn't buy that gold no no. Of course you would say that." I recommend against assuming you know what's going on with someone else's plight. I also recommend against doing anything other than going straight to Anet/NCSoft about account issues first. Last, I wouldn't run TexMod right now. If you're a good citizen, make it obvious for awhile and make it easier for everyone during this crack down. |

Yeah, it's risky. There is a possibility you might get banned accidently. Actually, just when playing gw you are risking to get banned by mistake, maybe you should stay away from it for some time. But even then it's possible somebody hackes it and you get a ban... oh, but there is a perfect solution to not get banned - just bot (or buy/sell gold), make somebody report you and - woila! - no more risk of ever getting banned, now you are safe.
Well, actually, both of those might happen... not that one would care ofc. Last edited by Yasmine; Jun 03, 2010 at 02:04 PM // 14:04.. |

Anet's stance is officially 'we don't care about Texmod' so it's cool. The people that claim they were banned over it simply don't want do admit they were botting obviously - wich is kinda dumb since Anet looks for botting behaviour, something Texmod doesn't have anything to do with. |

The EULA actually states no 3rd party applications are to be used, but they do say Textmod and GW Multilauncher are allowed. Kinda hypocritical if you ask me. They give too much grey area, and it should be black and white. Either allow all 3rd party applications or allow none.
"You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service which is not authorized by NC Interactive, including but not limited to the use of 'bots' and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input. You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for the Game(s), except that you may use the Software to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement." Btw, am i reading it wrong, or, in theory, "Hardware or software, ... which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service" includes pretty much everything (watch, wiki page, ipod, etc...) The rules of conduct are way more clear: "You may not use any third-party program (such as a "bot") in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars." http://www.guildwars.com/support/leg...sofconduct.php |

You'd think after all these years I'd stop dying a little inside every time a "Texmod is bad?" thread came up.

Texmod is "safe" to use, but if you are worried, just don't use it. Or use it to do your cartography title and then ditch it.
I, too, am sceptical of the people who say they were banned but "only used Texmod". Most of the time, after QQ'ing in the forums, they don't bother to say what the end result was of their contact with Support, so we never know why ANet says they were banned. I have used texmod for years and have never ever ever been banned- and I've never used anything but texmod so that's probably why. Texmod really doesn't DO anything to the game and I'm pretty sure that using it doesn't go against the EULA.
edit: and actually yes, I have used it since the bannings with no trouble. Last edited by camael; Jun 03, 2010 at 04:31 PM // 16:31.. |

If you use Texmod you aren't breaking any rules. simple as that.
If you're worried, just remember that you haven't done anything wrong and go to support. If you're JUST using texmod you will not be banned. if you use texmod and get banned it's more than likely it was something else you did. plenty of the people complaining about bans for texmod probably did something light like match manipulation on RR day or something earlier and can't remember so they assume it's texmod. |

1. I've used Texmod consistently for ages and was not banned.
2. Because it does not modify any game files or game processes in memory, texmod cannot be detected except by invasive "spyware" anti-cheat programs that scan all active processes. That's something a-net has never done so far, and should never do. |
