make your 1st character in prophecies
recommend not making a mesmer for ease of learning follow the story line dont do the quest from armin saberlin til you are level 7 or so do as many "second profession" quests as you can before "choosing a second profession for good" (dont worry eventually you will be able to switch this second profession at will) |

The playerbase is still pretty huge (though I'm sure not as large as it used to be). I don't think there are a lot of new players these days, but nice, helpful folks come around when you need 'em.
If you decide to go for it, message me and I'll give you a hand wherever it's needed |

IMO I'd tell you to just go ahead and try out Guild Wars. If for any reason you don't like it, which I doubt, you will have only wasted 30-40 dollars.
By the way, as a "precaution", you can always do a free trial. It's free to download (duh? ) and it will give you a small taste of what you're in for. click me --> http://www.guildwars.com/freetrial/ <-- click me

1. The goal in GW is not to level up, but to obtain skills you can use in the future.
2. Do not sell dye drops to the merchant without going to Ascalon and asking for a price check. 3. Make sure you have at least 50 gold when you enter the academy so that you will be able to access your storage. 4. Visit our Campfire section and read the stickied basic thread in the sub forum for your profession to get an idea of the usefulness of each secondary to that main profession. If you start in Prophecies (the first campaign) you will begin in "pre-searing" where everything is beautiful and fairly peaceful. As N E D M said, stay there (do not enter the academy) until you are at least level 7-8 as things change drastically once you leave and there is no going back. There is a fairly large population in pre-searing of permanent beginner characters who will answer any questions you might have. You might run into occasional idiots but just ignore them.

You'll level quickly in GW, within a few weeks you'll be no longer distinguishable from a veteran who already has played GW several years; because GW is already quite old most other players will assume that you're a veteran and may act rude if you make newbie mistakes. In that case say that you're rather new to the game, if they continue to be rude just ignore them.
If you don't look for a farming build (repeatedly doing the same thing to gather gold) or want to join a team in an end game area I advice you to stay away from a side named "PvX"; you'll find mostly good builds there, but you'll have a hard time to understand why it is good, better roam around in one of the GW fan forums like this one. Btw: If you don't lack common sense there nothing wrong with starting a mesmer right away if the class looks interesting for you; it isn't harder to play than other classes, it just plays slightly different. |

I was at Walmart the other day and they had all (3 full games and expansion) for $39, not sure how much of a deal it is, but they are all in one box.

seems like lots of people interested in GW2 are joining, so you're lucky you're joining now rather than 2 years ago. best thing to do is well play the game but if you're in it for Guild Wars 2, just get stuff for the Hall of Monuments, and don't spend much money on anything else.
but its a game so enjoy it, since GW2 will probably be quite different. |

-make any character in prophecies (or factions, but thats different story) -talk to armin saverlin asap -when you are in old ascalon beg for 50g to unlock storage -give a guy (who gave you 50g) 1k + dwarven ale -take 100k from storage -then ask for LA run (with beacons perch stop) -in LA ask for ToA run (go afk, have a coffee) -ask for droks run and get max armor there or lvl up to 10 and get free armor in eotn -lvl up to 20 in eotn by doing side quests -proceed with eotn until you get livia, make mm -go to NF, get olias quest, make N/rt -do NF missions until you get master of wispers -get some of the eotn pve skills After 5-6 h you are fully equipped and rdy to play the game. |

Which campaign to start in is dependant somewhat on your approach to the game. The learning/leveling curve in Prophecies is much slower than other campaigns. If you lean more toward the RPG aspect of the game, start there.
But, I would recommend starting in Nightfall. You get Heroes and the game looks and plays better. And, the levelling curve is not so long. Quote:

I was thinkin of just playing through each campaign as i go.
Since that seems how it was designed to be played, ha. Ive always been a "tank" so ill probably start with a warrior class. |

In that case, note that GW is quite a lot different to other games, in that there is no real way of getting and maintaining aggro. There's no Threat or equivalent. If you want to take the aggro you pretty much have to go in alone and have the rest of the party follow you in only when everything's started attacking you, or you have to stand at a corner and bodyblock so things can't get past you to attack the rest of the party. There's only a few situations where tanking like this is actually useful (mainly end-game stuff), so you'd do better playing your warrior as a well-armoured damage-dealer and not as a high-health high-armour low-damage meatshield to start with.
