DP. A terrible idea.
What was the great idea with this shit? Oh yeah you're already having trouble with something so we'll go and make it harder. Great idea.

I assume you are talking about the Death Penalty in the game? If you think this is bad go play some of the others where you lose LEVELS as well as your life. I personally liked the losing exp and levels in Everquest as it made you more aware of your surroundings and npcs. In GW you can play it like romper room game and really just keep pounding with anything until you complete the area or mission. It is repetitive but all you really lose is time. And you're already wasting time playing it anyways.

Its encourages you to stay alive. It makes you rethink your strategy if you die to much.
Its not the end of the world if you have some dp, if you have 60 dp then thats a clear sign you need to sort your build out for the situation. |

I like DP it actually encourages you to use strategy and hey if that's too hard Anet made consumables for people like you.

go play any other mmo where there is some sort of penalty for dying, be it dp, losing money, levels, stats, or having your char perma dead.
or go play hearts, there's no dp there |

Yes, DP is annoying and when it starts to accrue it gets easier and easier to wind up unable to do anything. It's annoying, but compared to some other games, we got off lightly.
Suggestions: -Protective spirit and Shelter skills. -Emergency Powerstones of courage |

Compared to some games, the GW death penalty is a mere smack on the wrist. Get up, rethink your strategy and try again (or go and play one of those nice Lego games I've heard about).

If you're talking about Normal mode, DP is nothing. Play an Asian MMO where you lose equipment you're wearing, items you're holding, and experience.

Dp is better than takin away your money and experience!! then leaving you to make your way back to your body to get your crap back!..or perma killing your toon in hardcore
If your racking up pd you know your doin something wrong, and its an indicator to change your builds and/or tactics.. wtb candy canes!! solves ALL your dp worries. |

All very good but...
All it does is make my prgression frustratingly slow. i might be able to burst down 1 mob before dieing at high DP then have o repeat till they are dead. WHat are these consumables you speak of? Im fairly new.

OP I am assuming that you are not level 20?? Do you have max armor??? what are the levels of these mobs you are attacking? Are you doing this solo???
Most of guildwars is now quite easy from the level 20 point of view which is why they came out with HARD mode---if you think its bad now, when you do HARD mode and get a 60 dp you are returned to the outpost!! If you are having great difficulty with the mobs you are facing perhaps you should adjust your strategy by answering the questions I asked at the top---and then look at what skills you are using (what skills are your heroes using if you have heroes). etc. When you have that information we can help you understand WHY you keep dying and help you play the game without such level of frustration.

You can always buy DP removal consumables. In comparison to a game like WoW, the DP system in this game is far more forgiving. I'd much rather deal with a slight temporary de-buff than a required repair bill that you pay far out the ass for.

Hear Hear!
I suggest that when a character dies, they be strengthened rather than weakened. As we all know, PvE is incredibly difficult in Guild Wars and should be burned to the ground with the fire of the ancients. Therefore, I suggest to you - the people of Guild Wars - that upon the death of your character, you should be granted the heath of Rotscale, the defensive capabilities of Duncan the Black, the persistence of Shiro, and the general reapiness of Dhuum. Surely, Anet cannot refute our battle cries of torment. Our characters bodies litter their servers. For God's sake, have a heart Anet, and prevent the unnecessary tragedy that befalls our very souls! Yes Mr Op, I agree that DP is not a particularly good mechanism- I admit it is not as bad as some MMO games death mechanics, but it still isn't what I would call good.
Anyhow- Guild Wars 2 will not be using the DP, so stay tuned for that! So apart from agreeing with you, the only advice I can give is to use wiki as others have said, and try find yourself a nice friendly Guild to help you out a lil. Once you get into the game a bit more, you can start getting all those boring team builds like Sabway (look em up on PvXWiki)- then you'll be able to stroll through pretty much anything. So don't get down from dieing- just keep at it, usually new Guild Wars players have a slow start but everything get better rapidly a while after you get your first level 20. Good luck! |
