Elite armor is just a different look, no advantage. If you don't have max armor level yet, but have the ability to get a set, just get a cheap 60AL set.
Weapons depend a lot on the player themselves. What kind of Ritualist do you usually play? Different builds can make better use of different weapon sets. If you have it, the Bonus Mission Pack weapons can be fully customized. |

If I'm playing a resto rit I like Alem's Remedy (or something with the same stats.)

Spirit skills don't benefit from recharge or anything. I just use +20 energy +30 health.

As DeanBB pointed out, most of the skills an SoS rit uses are binding rituals. They are neither spells nor enchantments, so the 20/20 or 40/40 weapons give no benefit except for any other skills you are using such as buffs or weapon skills. Thus most rits just use a high energy staff. Check over your build and see how many "spells" you are using and then decide if you need a specialized weapon set. This link for Alem's Remedy gives a little more information on equivalents. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Alem's_Remedy

Given +AL > health and 40/40 sets don't work on Binding Rituals, SoS, ST, SoGM, Spiritleech Aura, or Armor of Unfeeling, you might as well sit in a spear + shield set. Read the threads in the Rit forum.

This is the reason I tend to Mighty Was Vorizun I usually have enough communing to keep it up...and while alot of people don't like it...it's an easy +15 armor and some extra energy to make up the lost energy from not having an offhand. Just me though :\

Ssyn's Staff, Channeling, Health +60, Lightning, 20/20 is dropped by Ssyn Coiled Grasp in Archipelagos. Might be farmable. I got two with a full party while faction grinding.
