Its as good a tool as any to find common prices for some item.
And you wouldn't be the first to post...it's been posted plenty of times already. |

It's been posted on a couple of occasions already and knowledge of it seems to be spreading throughout the community. Afaik, Anet hasn't said anything about it yet. It looks questionable though. How are they obtaining that information? I doubt that there's someone there typing in each message. Given that it doesn't provide any significant advantages, I don't think using it is bannable, but of course Anet has the right to ban anyone they choose. The people who created/run the site may be in trouble though.

It'd be like banning me for having a keybind that types /resign. It hurts no one has no effect on gameplay and in this case is actually benficial for people both buyers and sellers. I used it a couple times and pm'd some of the names on there to grab some christmas presents for friends |

Just don't link it as a response in Price Check forum. Asking prices are not always the best measure of value.

Prolly good for high end items, normal everyday items will no doubt be sold before you get a chance to act on what you see with this

I'm fairly new to using that thing myself.
I have noticed a couple things about it worth knowing if you're using it to buy or sell stuff. 1) It's logging chat lines from Kama AD1 only. Trade lines from other districts and other regions don't seem to be logged at all. 2) It's not logging 24/7. I've found the best way to get a feel for when it's watching is to search for something that shows up frequently in trade ads, like "ecto" If the most recent trade ad containing "ecto" is a few hours old, then whatever is supposed to be in there reading lines is not currently active. It seems to be using GMT timezone. 3) Like a lot of web applications, it has trouble with apostrophes. If you're searching for info on "Bob's Staff," you're better off typing in "Bob Staff" That's my two ... er, three cents. I didn't write the program, and I don't work for ANet. Therefore, I can't speak to its legitimacy. Cheers, Luny |

I can't find anything to back this up but I thought that this was running from someone's client who was running picture analysis on trade chat. HT Gamma was using RAM memory locations to mine character data, but you can extract pictures of text using texmod so maybe its not possible to extract text from RAM in the same manner?
At any rate, I use the site a lot and its a really useful tool. |

Although there was a proposed project that did this (how many trading tools have been proposed/developed and died over the course of GW history?) it seems they ended up mining memory instead. |

You know, as nice as this discussion is.. it's been said and done before, and this is the Q&A forum, not the "discuss the legality of X" forum.
OP - next time please use the SEARCH feature. Had you done this, you'd have found your answer to this. I searched "gwestimator" and the following were found: What's that price checking website? gwEstimator Market? How To Sell to Other Players? I feel so ashamed Thread closed.
