Which Game to Get?
Alright, so I stopped playing Guild Wars 2 years ago and today I logged in for the first time, and my question to which game should I buy now.
on Amazon, Factions is going around for $28 while Nightfall goes for $33 Eye of the North goes for $12-$13 So the logical would be to get EotN but as far as skill-wise is EotN a good game to buy so I can increase my skill pool so I can have more effective builds or is it a must that I need to buy Factions and/or Nightfall if I really want a good skill set (and I only do PvE) So guys since yall are the people that are playing day in and day out, I would appreciate your input Thank you |

If you're not comfortable with buying online, Check your EBGames/GameStop/BestBuy/FutureShop/whatever. Trilogy should be about the same price and eotn should be ~$10. |

$30 would be too much especially when I play my XBOX 360 and another online game - man with $30 I could just add $15 and pay it to Gamefly so I could keep my Black Ops game.
Now $10 for EotN is not bad, but in the end what I am really looking forward to is which of the 3 games (NF, Facs, EotN) has the best skill pool so I can add it to my current Prophecies pool. and EotN is the only of the 3 games that is where the "beyond" events are taking place right? |

The "beyond" events started in Prophecies (war in kryta + Hearts of the North) and the next one will be in Factions (winds of change) and who knows where the following ones will be. In order to get in the first event (war in kryta) your character must have access to both Prophecies and Eye of the North and have completed at least one and for Hearts of the North you need to finish war in kryta.
As far as skills go eotn has the majority of pve-skills which are really strong but the downside is that it doesn't have many new "regular" skills (10 per profession and no elites if i remember correctly). I think Nightfall has more skills than Factions and it has also a larger storyline (if you enjoy the storyline you will find Factions rather small). Also there are new professions. If you buy Factions you gain access to ritualist and assassin which are both strong and widely used professions, with Nightfall you get Dervish and Paragon which IMO are not as good as the others but you may like them and have lots of fun with those. If i had to choose between Prophecies+Nightfall and Prophecies+Factions skills i would go for the first one. |

For the best builds with the best skills, you need all the campaigns. Sure, if you just get EotN, you'll improve your available skillset and add some heroes and that's great. But then some of the most OP skills are available only from Nightfall, where you could also get heroes. Then again, that misses out on some of the other most awesome and OP skills which are part of Factions. SoS, SY!, etc. are staples of builds people use to steamroll the game and come from Factions. Many PvE-only skills come from EotN and are also over-powered. But check gwpvx.com for the best meta builds out there and you'll find skills from Nightfall in almost all of them.
If you're willing to pay $33 for nightfall, why wouldn't you be willing to pay a little more for all of the games? Most bang for your buck: buy EotN from newegg for $5.99. Then just keep your eye out for Factions and/or Nightfall at the local gamestop/ebgames because they often have them on a rack in the back (you know the one...the dingy one...the only one with PC games on it that aren't WoW). They'll often have the other campaigns for $19.99 or something. I got Factions and Nightfall that way. Or, if you really want to be able to create the best builds, do what I said in my first answer: buy them all. Last edited by Roen; Jan 21, 2011 at 02:13 AM // 02:13.. |

As others have said, the trilogy is highly, highly recommended. You're really not experiencing the whole game without the three campaigns + EP as so much of it is intertwined now. |

What profession do you play?
Do you plan to start any new professions because Factions will give you access to Ritualist and Assassin and Nightfall will give you Dervish and Paragon. Although the Dervish should be getting an update Ritualist and ASsassin are two very propular professions for current PvE play while the others less so. As for skills this could come down to your existing profession(s), my suggestion would be to look through the pvx wiki (www.gwpvx.com) and there you will be able to see a list of the strongest and more popular builds used in the current game. Then you can search for those skills on the wiki (wiki.guildwars.com) to see what campaign they are from. If majority is from Factions, get that, or if is Nightfall, etc. Both Eye of the North and Nightfall will give you the option for Heroes, and Eye of the North also has the benefit of PvE Skills. Although both NF and Fac. also have some PvE skills available. Again look at the skills and what professions you're going to play. After that you can look into end-game content. Factions has The Deep and Urgoz (both 12 man areas), Nightfall has Domain of Anguish (8 man with popular farming runs), Eye of the North has Dungeons of varying difficulty, some farmed, some not. All areas including Prophecies that you own give you access to Underworld and Fissue of Woe. One other thing to add is that if you're intention to return was to gain rewards prior to the launch of Guild Wars 2, then you will need Eye of the North in order to have a Hall of Monuments in which to store your achievements and thus gain their rewards in GW2. Once you have a better understanding of what each campaign will offer you, you can decide which to buy based on their price. As has been mentioned, to get the most out of the game you are better off buying all the campaigns and EotN. However if you can't justify that cost then hopefully you can pick one and maybe purchase the others at a later date. |

Ok thank you for the help guys, really awesome community.
I had that 14day/10hr Nightfall trial a while back (I would not mind if someone could be so kind to give me another one ) I created a Derv on NF and also brought my Warrior over. I really liked NF - but now my question is if I do get NF or Factions - is it better to start a new character or just bring my current Warrior guy over? One more thing these GW games - technically we don't need a CD to play it just a CD-Key right? Thank you |

Oh Yeah, I am used with NewEgg already, they're are really awesome, and I think I will buy the EotN they have since it is dirt cheap, then I'll go on from thee - since it would be idiotic for me to dish out $30-40 bucks to get Factions/Nightfall and then stop playing it due to time/work/or etc |

When they run the sales, GW is usually $20 for the Trilogy. It's a digital purchase, so you get the CD key right away and just add it to your GW account. Steam is a supported sales partner for NCSoft, so you don't have to worry about getting screwed in the process. It's probably the absolute safest way to buy a CD key for a game. So anyway - since you're getting EotN now (NewEgg rocks - I love them!), you might just want to keep an eye out come April for deals on the Trilogy. That way you can get Nightfall & Factions cheaply, AND it gives you a couple of months to decide if you really like the GW universe and want to stick with it. Plus, EotN gives you some really useful PvE-only skills via quest rewards, and I think you'll find those really helpful as you progress. |

I bought a copy of EotN for US$6 from RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO after having someone recommend it to me from another site, and after doing some research and found that several people have bought from them before with no problems.
Only comes with the CD key, but heck it's so cheap. Took about 25 minutes to verify my payment, they then showed the CD key and I registered it to my account. Would definitely have bought my Trilogy from them if I knew about it sooner. Edit: Guess the link isn't allowed. Look for post #6 of this thread: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/l...t10407057.html |

I'm not 100% sure though... I know when I got the other campaigns, I had to register the key on the NCSoft website while logged into my master account - but there may be a way to do that via the game client itself. Someone else may know more. Btw - can't you log into your NCSoft account using the same info you log into the game with when you boot it up? |
