Drop Rate influenced by district?
Hey so I was in a party earlier doing vsf and heard another player talking about how being in international or asian districts will increase the the drop rate for items such as ectos/vs. Is this true or horse?

I don't think that's true at all.
Anet has loot scaling(I think that's the right term), Where if you consistently farm the same area the loot is scaled back so you make less and less. Not sure if this is applied to dungeons as well though. |

Isn't that for hero armor remnants?

Personally I've seen signs that loot increased considerably during times when people been busy with other things (ie. Snowball Dominance, festival farming), .. but if it's affected by all regions or just one, I have no idea.

Hero armor remnants have a huge drop of chances when you get 4 of it (of any kind).
BTW, i think that a relation between district and drop chances is true as the benefit of farm with leechers rather then alone.....in other words no. |

its just a widely accepted myth.
there is no proof to back it up. If you are on a slower PC, then less populated districts just make you lag less. |

My best drops are in places where there are no people in the outposts. For populated areas I go Polish or International.
I got a ruby and a sapphire in 10 minutes of FoW dual accounting (2 of my accounts + 6 heroes) when I entered from a different place than Temple of Ages. |

Cannot find it right at the moment but on one of the wiki's there was a whole article about "Hot Districts", which basically mean when farming for something that district has an above average drop rate for a period of time. That could be possibly what the original guy meant. I'll try to find the page and post a link.

There's been no documented improvement to drops depending on district and I'm 100% sure Anet would never make a system that pointless. Much simpler and more fair to just keep rates the same regardless of district. |

Loot drops have nothing to do with districts or servers and everything to do with your personal luck.

the only tidbit I can add ....my husband doesnt play very much anymore (working 2 jobs will do that with your time)....whenever he plays he gets great drops (black dye, gold weapons etc).....now I play just about everyday....I rarely get great drops.
If I dont play for a few days, when I get back I get some nice drops on the first day. but this may all be part of my perspective.

Ok heres my few dollars worth.
Many say drops are set upon entry to a zone , many say switch zones to empty ones. Loot scaling does come into play but sadly we dont really know at what point it starts - 10 run or 50 runs etc. If drops are set upon entry - you just may have had a ball roll of the die and server gives you a crap run.Switching to a diff/empty dist isnt doing anything for you except rerolling your entry so in theory terms - instead of going in ae1 and into xxx zone and getting a bad roll you went to russian dist xxx and got a slightly better roll. Sadly you cant really prove nor disprove because of the millions of random factors that can affect the rolling of the die ( please dont sidetrack the thread with replies on drops as theres been too many posts about it - may as well try and prove/disprove god as its same thing ). Ive had day where i get ok drops and days with bad drops , ive had it where ive not stepped foot in uw for 6 months and gone in and first 2 runs i got no ectos at all but the other team members got some ( wife got 5 grrrr ) so the theory of not visitng the zone for a while seemed to fail bigtime there. What it boils down to and players really dislike is luck - like darcy said and nothing much else and thats all. Also remember that h/h make a real big living off us players and they steal ( as its put ) our drops , maybe they had the luck for the golds/greens and we didnt. 1 last example - keshel the voracious ( think its spelt that way ) monk boss in nf - ive probably done 300 runs in total over time at them in hm for elite monk tome and got a grand total of Zero , scareater boss in factions probably done ages ago on sin maybe 500 runs ( fun boss to solo ) and weirdly i got around 10 greens and again Zero elite tomes.Players would say i was real unlucky , i even switched districts between some of the runs and was doing in russian dist etc. |

i would think the die and scripts are the same for all districts at all times
engineering a system that intense would be impractical imo some people will say anything to get out of a crowded server. purely lag related which dont make much more sense to me either cause once u zone out your in your own world it does not have to be that difficult Last edited by Just Sai; Jan 23, 2011 at 09:37 AM // 09:37.. |

My advice is to reset the loot table by completing quests and missions. That's something I know works.
The Polish thing was a mere joke on my part because everyone always says it gives better drops and somehow all my best drops come from non-American. |

I have observed many many times a significant increase of drops quality upon switching to international districts (I was farming various stuff a lot back when there was no free travel between districts so int. was the only option).
It was like drops in my home districts got exhausted (it wasn't the old antifarm code as I did long runs across large areas, for example multiple bosses in Factions or a large part of FoW) so I had only whites/blues and completely nothing of value drop for like 1-2 hours and then I switched to international and got like 3 golds +2 greens on the first run there. True story, a dramatic drop quality increase happened many times. Still I think this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias is much more likely the case than switching districts being actually relevant... but... can't be 100% sure! Keep in mind drops in GW are pregenerated upon the creation of the instance, not at the moment of actual drops. Who knows what parameters are used by the game when seeding the drops. Remember those experiments when 2 players entered the same area in the same time creating 2 separate instances but getting exactly or almost exactly the same drops? That should give us something to think about or test more. |

Anyways, regardless of what region or district you are in, I am pretty sure the rates are the same. You are still going to have to go through the same old, long, tedious, and boring routines. |
