Updating Guild Wars
Quite awhile back there was a video with one of the Anet team (can't remember who) That stated GW campaigns would get a face lift in regards to textures and whatnot. They used the fire and waterfalls from Eye of the North as an example of what people could expect. At first I thought this would be a dead issue because of GW2 but this announcement was made during the release of EotN so GW2 was already in the works. Is this ever really going to happen? Has anyone else ever heard about this?
To help people out, the video was showcasing a monk in the burning forest I believe. |

I can't recall ever having heard this. Although it would be amazing, the amount of resources it would require would be ridiculous - especially considering that Prophecies was introduced almost 6 years ago and Factions almost 5.

I remember something about it too. But yeah it's probably a project that was lost in time and now it'd be pointless to do it since we're getting closer to GW2 release and it'd require people to be taken off of it.

Some of the Kryta explorables were given such an update for the War in Kryta content (Talmark Wilderness for example). It would be nice to see it done for the rest of Tyria, but I suspect the work involved would be too much for the team.

One could say their primary focus is on GW2 right now. But, I wouldn't doubt that they would revisit GW1 once they have less and less work to do development wise once the majority of GW2 is done and released. Don't worry, they're not going to forget their old game, things tend to get stale for previous releases when they work on other projects. No one ever talks of a specific market for GW1 directly related to GW2, the market I refer to is people new to the series who never played GW1. If these people ever want to play the GW1 storyline, you'd bet they'd buy it. Arena Net would do well to re-tex and face-lift the old areas to make it more appealing and advantageous of today's (and "tomorrow's") hardware.

I never heard about this. I tried searching the forums, and have come up with nothing. You would think if it was said that there would have been 2 or 3 threads about it at the time...
Actually, they didn't begin GW2 until after EotN was released. The devs will even admit that the fact GW2 has "taken so long" is because they announced it a few months before they even began working on it. |

Is this the video you refer to? Watch it again, and Ben Miller says (0:54) that Eye of the North has updated graphics, but nothing was said about adding new effects or replacement of textures to the previous campaigns.
By the way, a link to that video may be found on the official wiki's Eye of the North page, here. Last edited by MisterB; Mar 14, 2011 at 07:54 PM // 19:54.. |
