Old player comming back!
Hello!
After a long time i decided to play GW again. I only played the first game not the expansions that came after the first one. Nightfall seems really cool so i will start with that. Now im looking for some tips on how to play. The game has changed and looks hard compared to the faceroll games like world of warcraft >.> So is there anyone out there who could give me advice on how to play a Monk or a Ritualist ? I would like to play him/her as a healer / support. Hope any of you can help me out with this! Last edited by KevinJK; Mar 13, 2011 at 12:13 PM // 12:13.. |

Have fun with GW. I've only been playing since last summer, but I'm playing through the Trilogy edition and Eye of the North simultaneously. A big change from when you last played is the ability to put seven heroes in your party now. You'll pick up heroes as you continue in Nightfall, and after level 10 you can travel to the Eye of the North if you have that expansion and get more heroes. I recommend waiting longer than level 10, though, since my characters were about level 14 and found EotN challenging. EotN will take your character up to level 20 in some ways when you arrive.
If you haven't played Factions, it's a good game also (though I'm currently a little bored with the Kurzick/Luxon levels). You'll find ritualists are interesting to play, and dervishes have recently been buffed (I know it's more complicated than that, but it feels to me as if they've been buffed). Get the Signet of Spirits for your ritualists at some point. Last edited by syronj; Mar 13, 2011 at 12:51 PM // 12:51.. |

I'd also suggest joining a guild that's active and helpful. There's plenty to chose from in the recruitment section right on these very forums as well as joining one that's advertising in Kamadan etc. The benefits of the guilds that advertise on Guru is that you can read more about the guild than what someone can post in a chat message in game :P Also gives you a chance to visit guild sites and see what sort of guild they are before joining.
Other than that, I'd suggest checking the Monk section on the forums here as well as PvX for some ideas on builds. |

I just start the game as a Ritualist. Looks very cool so far.
Did some reading too in the "an updated Guide to playing Ritualist" and a Ritualist / Monk combo seems very nice to me |

Tbh as you can change your profession after "ascending", your secondary doesn't matter that much. My rit is secondary ranger although her bar is currently pure rit skills. I went for that so I could pull off a splinter barrage build but so far I've not gotten round to it as I've not been paying her that much attention. But yeah, as you can change your secondary profession, you're not bound to a specific set of skills which should make things more enjoyable and interesting.

Hmm, after a few hours of play i decided to start a monk and see how that goes. So far I do like Rit but i miss the lack of healing.

Ritualists can heal via the Restoration line but skills are limited in general when you first start the game. Again, it's all about progressing the character and learning about the different professions and skills as you go. To me, a rit is a nice balanced healer as you can also go offensive very easily.

Actually it's not. There are two spirits that steal health from foes. Bloodsong is in Channeling and Vampirism is linked to the Sunspear title.

Played some more Ritualist now and it seems very interesting so far !
Got some pokes from random people that i should try out Dervish? It seems like a nice dmg dealer. Gonna try that today and after that ill decide what to focus on for now. Thanks for all the messages so far ! Is it possible to finish the game / expansions by just playing a monk and heal your heroes / henchman? Nobody ingame wants to help me, all i get is people laughing or swearing towards me >.> for being a noob. |

It's possible to do the entire game with H/H(heroes & henchmen).
My main is a monk and most of what I've done in my entire GW experience is H/H. |

You can do everything with just heroes now.
One skill you should perfect if your going to be a healer is kiting. Basically you need to keep moving because if you stand still your going to be quickly killed and leave your party in bad shape. There are plenty of people willing to help out others but mostly people stick with those in thier own guild. Search the forums for a guild then pm them in game and ask a few questions. 1) How many people log in at the time your most likely to be online? 2) What time zone do the guild leader/officers live in? (can impact how the guild funcitons) 3) Requirements to join/do spead clears/elite zones? Best of luck to you and if you see me online feel free to pm me with any questions. |

Regretfully (except for pre-searing) the beginner areas (Ascalon, Kamadan & Shing Jea) are full of idiots hanging around, talking trash and laughing at new players. I promise you it will get better when you move on to other towns.
