Question regarding 55 Monk Build
Hello everyone,
I currently main a Dervish with Monk as sub class. I'm trying to work with the 55 Monk build, but I'm stuck at which Armor to use. I can't buy anything from LA (Vendor sells nothing) or Monastary (Not on my map). Anything I can buy in Kamadan is over 25+ Armor and for Dervish only. This is problematic for me, considering the guides say to buy Ascetic set. If anyone can explain to me how thats possible as a Nightfall Dervish, I would be in your debt. Thank you. |

Dervishes by default cannot get their health below 105 due to +30HP inherent, there were farming builds based on 105HP but I do believe that those have all been nerfed some time ago. The guide you are reading is for a 55Monk, not 55 D/Mo

basically, when your playing a dervish character, you CANNOT buy armor for monks or any other profession and vice-versa.

when you play a 55hp monk build your armor rating doesnt apply... your not wanting to take massive ammounts of damage like you would if you were playing a 600 monk build...
with the 55 monk build it limits the ammount of damage and doesnt matter the amount dealt to you. the 600 monk build you have to be able to take enough damage to trigger the skills that will heal you over the damage amount. so you can use your 15k derv armor as long as you get your hp down to 55hp your golden.... best luck to ya mate. |

You're not seeing the "Aescetics" armor or other available armors at Lion's Arch because you're a Dervish. You can't buy Dervish armor in Lion's Arch. The guide you're reading assumes that you're a monk. The armor rating on your armor is not a factor if you are using a "55" build. These builds don't rely on any mechanics which deal with your armor rating. These builds usually involve Protective Spirit reducing all damage packets to -5's, and then stacking tons of health regen to overcome those -5's. You can wear any armor at all for these builds. The armor rating on your armor is a BIG factor if you are using a "600" build. These builds rely on you taking over X damage, so that Spirit Bond triggers a heal. Protective Spirit is still used, so the "post-Prot-math" damage packets are still small, but the "pre-Prot-math" damage packets must be very large for Spirit Bond to work. These builds usually have you wearing your "starter" armor, or low-rating Kamadan armor, and often going shirtless. I won't comment on whether or not a 55-style build is effective with a Dervish, since I have no experience on that matter. Most folks use Monk primaries for 55 farms, from what I've seen, but since I'm not an expert on any of that, I'll shut right up. :-) |

55 hp is not possible with a Dervish primary because of the inherent +25 hp chest piece, 130 hp is the lowest a Dervish can achieve using a scythe (80 hp using an one-handed weapon and the -50 hp Grim Cesta)
As indicated in the previous posts, the lowest armor rating is 25 for Dervishes (The Istani and Sunspear armors from Kamandan). For further information, there's a build on PvX for 130hp Dervish here. Armor rating is a big factor if you want skills like Spirit Bond to heal yourself. (The lowest possible armor will almost guarantee that every attack received will be more than 60 dmg) |

Thanks for all the responses. I was falsely believing that 55 Monk build could be used as a secondary monk. This also explains why I couldn't find monk armor in cities. Guess I'll be making myself a monk.

Gone are the days or 55 uw so not much point to it really a sos rit is more diversabel then a 55 monk in my mind. cheers |
