Well I made alot of my money selling 40/40 collector sets back in the day. Farm what i needed and sell. The most popular one was the fire set only took one WTS fire set to sell it for 7-10k. Oh and also made lots of cash crafting deldrimor steel. You may not think so but I made 700g per and could craft about 500-600/hr farming all mats. So people can do it by any means. Oh and if you are lucky too.

From Beta to early 2007 prices were fair and most everything was obtainable with basic farming
Look at an old Kanaxi Thread http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...t10107450.html The highest bid 250e and someone laughing at that offer being too high. Then we have the following events The Great Dupe of 2007 Tournament Reward Points buying z-keys added Armbraces being recognized as currency and The development of DOA Speed Clears RIP Normal Prices 2007 |

You know how I make money? It's called Garbage Collecting. Ever see someone not pick up their drops? I collect them, sell it and build up my supply of gold.
No farming. No power trading. Just good ol' playing the game and garbage collecting. After all, one person's trash is 1/5000 of a future set of Obsidian Armor. |

But the (innocent) super rich do it by power trading. And I'm sure there are those who got their piles of ectos by UWSCs. (When you see "+ 1,000" in the PS for UWSCs, you know those people have a ton of ectos!) |

Also, what steps are being taken to ensure gw2 will be free and clear of this because it seems gw1 has no hope. |

A lot of the super rich will prey on the newbies as well. About 3 years ago an officer in my guild said that his daughter won one of the prizes in an art contest or mini madness contest, i don't recall. She received one of the ultra-rare minis for it.
He said someone pm'd her and offered her 100k for it. To her it was more money than she had ever had and quickly sold it before he could warn her not to. We both knew she got scammed, but she hadn't been playing long and thought it was a good deal. I'll also agree with the "picking up garbage" post. I used to pug DOA back in the Ursan days. I'd go into a full run with 3 superior salvage kits and spend a half hour in the zone after we were done just picking up left overs. I'd leave with 10-15 stacks of mats. (Merchant Summoning Stone was the best thing they ever added to the game!) |

Here's an example. First off, sit on your ass in Kamadan all day looking at trade chat and party search. For starters you take something like, let's say alcohol. You buy at 90g/pt until you have 10k pts. You then sell a full title at 140g/pt. There's 500k profit in as little as a day. Now that you have 1.5 mil, let's move on to swords for example. You use the ~169e you now have (126e at day 1) to buy 9 Q9 Emerald Blades @ 15e each then a Q9 Obsidian Edge @ 34e. You then sell those for what they're worth (25e and 60e) and you now have turned those 169 ectos into 285 ectos. Now you move on to Prot BDS's... etc up to asian minis. This is all based on prices I've paid and sold these items for. The difference between me and those mega rich people is I know what the sun looks like and I don't live in Kamadan.

FoW will earn you ~15-20k per run, a little bit more if you do T1. UWSC varies widely in profit, but best bet is to run a terra (main team gets very little). DoA gets you 70k per run (30-60 mins, depending on guild and tactics). DoA is best for consistent money, but you may prefer trying your luck in FoW and UW chests.
For solo, conset mat farming is the best bet. Farming and selling event drops on their respective weekends is decent. I have no respect for power traders, as they just prey on the uninformed. The most rich in a game should be the ones best at playing it (both pvp and pve) not who can find the most suckers. But that's just my opinion. Of course, there is also the illegal ways - botting, hacking rich people's accounts, buying ecto stacks for real money, and the aforementioned duping. But, luckily GW is not a money-based game. You can get the maximum effective weapons and armor for cheap. Personally, I don't know why anybody would want umpteen stacks of ectos, especially if they already got all the super-expensive stuff (mini kanaxai, etc). |
