Only getting 1 gemstone from chest after Lords of Anguish are dead?
Last week I completed the Mallyx the Unyielding quest, defeating the 4 Lords of Anguish and finally Mallyx. I though it was normal to get 1 gemstone from the chest. However after reading the wiki:
1 to 4 Torment Gemstones (depending on how many Lords of Anguish were defeated before The Greater Darkness; twice as many in Hard Mode) I did the quest in order, and when the Dredsapawn Maw was defeated (and the 3 other Lords of Anguish were), I still got only 1 gemstone. I also only got 1 gemstone from all the other 3 chests (although the first one is in fact supposed to give me 1 gem). Is this because I completed 1 quest per day?. Do you have to complete them all without logging of to get the additional gemstones?. This was in normal mode and with heroes if that matters. (I know the difficulty gives you x 2, but normal still can give 1 - 4 according to wiki) This was also my first time doing DoA if that matters, I also died several times on each try if that matters. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: just saw this... Doing the four sub-quests in succession in one run (as opposed to doing each separately), causes the chests that appear after the Overlords die to drop an increasing number of gems. i.e. first chest drops one gem for each party member, next chest drops two gems per party member, third chest drops three and fourth chest drops four. Those numbers are doubled in hard mode. Anyway that answers my question, I only got one now what exactly is succession?, does that only mean without logging off?, or does it mean the next area you enter must be the next quest? -Oscar Last edited by oscarmk; Jun 14, 2011 at 06:17 AM // 06:17.. |

In order to get more gems you must do them all in the same run, without zoning out. Succession means one after the other in the same instance.

When you complete one DoA area it opens up a door to the next one, so if you complete City, you can go straight into Veil, if you then complete Veil the chest will give you two Stygian Gems, you can then move straight on to Gloom etc. If you leave the instance after completing one area then it will treat it as a new start next time you join so you'll only get one gem from the chest. It is to encourage players to complete all four areas in one go, although they understand this can take time so they also allow it to be done individually only the reward is not as good. |

I'm curious... I killed Lord Jadoth last weekend and a chest never popped (although he dropped a single stone) and the Mallyx quest didn't update with his death. I take it a chest was I supposed to pop, then?
I ended up zoning out, figuring there was no point to continue since the quest seemed bugged. Now I have to clear the city all over again =/ |

Most likely, you didn't. Cause if you did, it would have updated and the chest would have spawned...
One go means not zoning out. You enter in any area and after doing that area you proceed to the next one. Say you start in Foundry, you complete Foundry -> City -> veil -> gloom, you'll get 1 gem from Titan chest, 2 from margo chest, 3 from Veil chest and 4 from Gloom chest, double in HM. It is in fact possible to get other gems in a different order, because you don't need to kill Jadoth to proceed to veil. When doing records, we do'nt kill the Jadoth group, we just pull him away, so when we finish, sometimes we go back to kill him, just to get 8 Margo gems. The order then is: 2 Titans, 4 Stygians, 6 Torments, 8 margo's, but that's just silly stuff you should'nt be bothered with... It can also sometimes be 2 titans, 4 torments, 6 stygians and 8 margo's, depending on other factors, but again, taht's silly stuff you shouldn't be thinking about... |
