Dumb dervish question
I am completely new to this game. I don't even have it yet! lol I was planning on starting in Prophecies. I'm not quite sure which profession to focus on, might tinker around with them before I decide. My one question is this, I know dervish came out with the Nightfall (I ordered trilogy and eye of the north). Can i only begin a new dervish character in the Nightfall campaign, or can I start a new one in Prophecies as well?

You can only make a Dervish (and a Paragon) in Nightfall. In the same way, you can only make an Assassin and a Ritualist in Factions. But you can make the other 6 professions in any campaign. Anyway, no matter where you start, you can take your character to any location in Guild Wars... except for Pre-Searing, because once a Prophecies character leaves that area, you can not return there.

Since you're new, I will give you a money tip and same time avoid a common newbie scam.
* When you talk with High Priest Zhang first time in Great Temple of Balthazar (first outpost if you create a PvP character), you will receive 50 Tournament Points. * Don't take these points lightly, they're worth a lot as you can trade for various rewards, and some people take advantage of new people trying to scam them out of these reward. * As an example, talking to Tolkano in same outpost, he trade Zaishen Keys for every 5 points (ie. 10 keys). These keys are worth a lot to other players, minimum 5000-5500g each. This is a huge amount of money for a new player and can help you get your first armors and decent weapons. As a last suggestion, consider using some of the money to invest in creating a farmer (ie. a character with a build capable of killing certain mobs solo in order to make money from their drops). That way you will not only have a good starting money, but an income as well until you get your other characters equipped. As an example, a Ritualist with a lot of spirits could kill tengu birds around Shing Jea for their feathers. These feathers sell good on the player market later. |

You can farm feathers faster as a dervish, so if that's what he wants to play making a Rt for farming feathers isn't really a good idea, but a Rt for farming ectos(which can also be done by a Dervish though, just slower), that can be useful, but shouldn't need to too soon. I had to do a few feather runs myself as a brand new player(didn't know I could get zkeys for free though, gotta go do that), so I could afford buying all the decent skills for heroes. In fact about halfway through Nightfall, I just gave up on heroes and finished the campaign with full henchmen cause they were performing better. Once I was done though it gave me access to most trainers so I got myself a nice set of heroes and now I just don't bother farming, I just do my vanquishes and the zaishen dailies and I make money doing that.

Doesn't hurt to try help a newbie out, so certain shady guys won't take advantage of them.
At least certain comments are more useful than the above +1's, tell how that provides any usefulness on guru except increasing your post count? |

Bristlebane, you're on the path to becoming my new forum hero.
I'm 3 months old in the game, but there is still so much more information I need to learn about the game, that random replies on random topics that I come across are always welcome. And now I have the chance to check in the future that Tournament Points info for my own newbie benefit. |
