My Quests Dried Up
I'm a new player, I've been doing the quests in Prophecies and reached lvl 12. I just finished Althea's Ashes and now I'm looking around for a new quest but I seem to have completed them all in the areas I have access to, and can't find any more. I can travel to Embark Island and there are some quests there but they are all way too advanced for me and I don't even meet the requirements for them. So how do I find some new quests (I'm looking for ones with 500-1000 xp or so) and make further progress?

I think you are out of quests since there really are not any more to do in your current outpost. Progression in Guild Wars is through Missions. The ones in your area are tuned for your level, so don't worry.
Now to help see where you need to go, have you done The Great Northern Wall? You can find it North East of Ascalon (you can go there without leaving the city). From there the missions will lead to eachother. You will end up doing The Great Northern Wall -> Fort Ranik -> Ruins of Surmia -> Nolani Academy. After that you'll arrive in Yak's Bend which will offer a few new quests. Edit: Missions appear on your map as shield icons. When you complete them, swords are added (one indicates mission complete, two indicate mission + bonus). |

Also make yourself familiar with guild wars wiki as it is a very useful source for information:

NightFall has better system, missions start NPCs that have visible symbol above their heads. The prophecies/factions mission start system is often problem to all newbies.

Be mindful of your quest log. Any quests grouped under the "Primary Quests"* heading will progress you through your campaign, leading you from mission to mission. Other quests are side-quests that, while fun, useful, and enhance the lore, are not necessary to push you through the main storyline.
* Eye of the North quests are an exception -- they get their own "Primary" quest headings. |

Note that doing missions will often open up new quests in an area. For example, Warmaster Tydus will offer you the quest "Scavengers in Old Ascalon" after you have completed Great Northern Wall and "Troublesome Artifact" after you have completed Fort Ranik. Likewise, Captain Arne and Simon the Scribe have additional quests, and there may be others I've forgotten.

Not to hijack this thread but the OP's problem is so similar to mine it seemed silly to make another thread. I also got stuck at 12 after Althea's Ashes and wondered what happened to the quests. I saw Fort Ranik flashing and when I traveled back there it clicked that I needed to do a mission. My problem is Ruins of Surmia. I'm trying to do the mission there which is to follow and protect Prince Rurik as he frees countrymen captured by the Charr. He tells me to follow him, runs down the steps and then stops. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've followed very close, I've given him a little space lol, but each time he runs a little bit past the steps and then just stops. I read the wiki and also the mission guide here on Guru and I just can't figure out why he doesn't keep running to the prisons where the captives are. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rurik sometimes leads and sometimes follows in that mission. At the start he will run ahead and stop. Then he will follow you as you move on, up to the point where you start meeting charr along the path. Then he goes crazy for a while, running ahead from group to group, making it a challenge to keep him alive. Then he goes back to following again, until the next time he goes nuts.
Eventually you will reach a drawbridge that he sends you around to lower for him. If you've managed to keep him alive that far, the best thing to do is to leave him stuck there until you've cleared out everything in Drascir (as well as doing the bonus), then go back and lower the bridge. Otherwise, he will start running ahead again and will almost certainly draw down more aggro than you can handle from the large number of charr near the end. |

Thank you so much for the response and the advice. I surely would have lowered the bridge when Rurik asked me to lol. Now I'm ready to try again .
