something confusing me
so here i am in pre searing ascalon about to do the leaving quest.
i understand that once you've left and witnessed the searing, you cannot return to ascalon in its pre seared condition. heres the thing, standing in town i see other players wandering around wearing kit and seemingly of an experience level that doesnt seem to be available in this part of the game! im sure im missing something.cheers |

IMHO you saw costumes "They are worn over a character's existing armor, and do not affect any stats." http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume

Like being said above,
There is a title wich is rewarded by getting to lvl 20 in pre-seering. I would suggest to not do that with your first character, it takes a long time and it stops you from enjoying the rest of the game. The other things are costumes and festivalhats. they can be gathered account wide (costumes have to be bought extra from the in-game shop), They do not have extra stats and the real armor is underneath the costume. Many of those people have perma-pre-seering characters, that are created for the only purpose of enjoying pre-seering anytime. They don't have any plans on leaving the place. |

There is a long wiki article bout how to do it, but basicly the trick is to gain experience by killing foes (best way is to go over the wall into the northlands, cause there are higher level foes there that gives more experiences) and keep killing stuff till you are lvl 10. At that moment Langmar in Ascalon will be giving you one quest/day with enemy's that level up with you. (there are 9 of those quest, every day another one, and after 9 days it repeats).

one is death leveling essentially you get some enemies near a res shrine and let them kill you again and again till they get to a higher levl then kill them for the experience. Or you get to lvl 10 in pre then take the new daily quests that give 1000 xp to work your way to lvl 20. The way to get to lvl 10 is to never take the quest rewards but to keep killing creatures till your pretty close to lvl 9 then accept all the rewards. |

A quick word on the daily quests: To level even faster, repeatedly kill enemies without finishing the quest by popping in and out of town/outposts to "reset" them. Zoning in and out of an area with enemies with close access to a portal can dramatically speed up the process...quest in the Catecombs where you kill several Zombie Warlocks for example; you can run down, quickly kill the first one (turn right when leaving Ashford instead of left, squeezing behind the building...should know you're there by all the gargoyles) and the higher level unded with him. Depending on your level, just a few runs will net you the same amount of experiance as the quest reward and save you a LOT of time.

If you intend leaving pre with this char and continuing on to finish the Prophecies campaign I wouldn't lvl up any more in pre as it will ruin the rest of Prophecies campaign by making it too easy.

If you are already lvl 8 it shouldn't be too hard though, and a good guildmate or two should be able to help you if you get stuck in a tight spot (also a lot of people enjoy helping people new to the game, feel free to ask and you'll probably get help). Also be aware of your inventory. You probably already have noticed, but Black and white dyes are valuable drops. Make sure to keep those as they are valuable after you witness the searing. Even if you don't always play as a party the one that has already done a particular mission can still come back and do it again. You can also keep an eye out for equipment drops that might benefit each others characters since these are random it helps a lot. |

we tend to arrange days when all the wives are out! also my friends 8 year old son plays with us and hes better than all of us put together.
not sure about all this guild thing to be honest, the little ive seen of them they seem to take this stuff way too seriously. dont think we'd get on with most of them as we really dont! never realised that dye would be worth so much. cheers |

I wasn't too sure about the guild thing either, when I first started playing, but keep looking. There are casual guilds out there with mature people (of any age) who play for fun with friends and family. It can be beneficial to join such a guild for access to a guild hall and for keeping guild recruiters from constantly whispering you because you don't have a guild tag.

At their best guilds are a collection of good natured reliable people with a wealth of experience in the game.
You gain a home base "guild hall" to gather away from other players you have people to form parties get advice on game problems. There are also guilds that specialise in aspects of the game be it pvp pve farming or what have you. You have all you need right now with friends and family, so may not need a guild for some time if ever. It is worthwhile checking out what is selling at the traders for large sums be it dye runes or rare materials. Also worth listening to what other players are asking for some materials are wanted either to complete missions craft items or create "consumables" some of these have great value. Its not something to devote a large part of your game time but a note pad with a list of valuables could net you a decent profit. Hopefully see you all at the Halloween festivities coming soon. |
