Default This late in the games lifespan...what to purchase...

Hi.

New here (obviously). I bought Guild Wars around 5-6 years ago and magically remembered my login so I just recently re-downloaded it, linked it to my ncsoft master account, and made a new character for shiggles. I've been playing Aion/WoW for a while, and last I played this game was shortly after it actually released. I only own the original game.

I'm going to replay through the original prophecies campaign with the basic game before I do anything else, so I can sort of moderate my learning curve the way everyone else did before all the other expansions/campaigns released.

I have a few newbie questions, and/or observations though...after reading the "budget" thread at the top.

1. The trilogy is $30, but if I were to just buy factions and nightfall it would be $60. No matter what EotN will cost me $20. Is it stupid of me to think that buying the trilogy might be the most cost advantaged option to obtaining all of the content Guild Wars currently offers (box-wise)? I feel like it will cause issues in terms of having a whole different set of box cd-keys (and a new account within my ncsoft master account). I'm just looking for opinions here...how do you think I should go about the upgrade plan if I'm hoping to experience all the major content in the game?

2. Will it even be worth it? If I keep my original copy of Guild Wars and get Factions, Nightfall, and EotN, I'm looking at an $80 investment to get caught up before GW2 comes out (really looking forward to that game). Is there any other "must-purchase" content that I need to be aware of?

Thanks for any insight.

Buying the trilogy is your best move financially. However, you need not use it to set up a second account. The trilogy comes with a single key that unlocks all three campaigns, rather than a set of keys for each. You can apply that key to your existing account to upgrade it with Factions and Nightfall. That's the way to go, unless you really want to have two accounts.

I know it may feel like you're "wasting" an account. But, if you don't really need a second Prophecies account, what's the harm? You just got Factions + Nightfall for $30 instead of $60, which is still a darned good deal. Also, if your existing Prophecies is not the Game of the Year edition, upgrading with the trilogy key will add the GotY bonus items to your account.

There is no other "must have" content other than the trilogy and EotN. The Bonus Mission Pack is nice if you're really into the lore of the game or really like the weapon skins it provides, but it is far from essential. The skill packs are nice if you're too lazy to capture skills for your heroes or if you PvP, but also far from essential.

Hi there,

bybuying the Trilogy you just have one key only, so you just add it to your existing proph thus, you do not loose any old chars you have.

So you still have those for birthday presents ect,as far as the expansion Eye of the north its worthwhile searching the web for offers on this one. as it can still be purchased cheaply.

The Hall of monuments records your achivements and have a few items that you will be able to take to GW2. the base points is 30 easily achieved once you have those then its titles only .

So it does not offer you ingame advantage when you have gw2 its just cosmetic and a reward from areanet for loyalty.

You still have plenty of time and also the gw1 game will not close once GW2 comes out so you can hop back and forth to boost your Hom if you so wish

Hope this helps you some

Very, very helpful (as well as the post below it). Thanks so much.

I was not aware that it simply unlocks the campaigns right in the game. I thought it would give me a new CD key or something, which would cause complications for me I think. The fact I get GotY bonus items is a huge positive to me as well because I do indeed have the very original game (non-GotY). Seems that will easily be the way to go.

Honestly I would buy Trilogy and keep you current proph account separate.

That way you have the flexibiliy of extra storage and the possibility of running the old account simply to have sitting in Kamadan trading.

It is simple to run two games at once.

From the sounds of it you have no old developed characters on your proph account anyway.

I strongly suggest playing them all at once, since it makes things much easier due to heroes/skills.

Hey there! Welcome back!

I too recently came back to the game. Like you, I only had the original game. As a birthday present, I had my sister get me the entire package - trilogy+EotN. I've been playing that for more than a year (two toons, one through all campaigns, the other through everything but Prophecies).

In that time, storage has been my biggest problem. Especially since I'm working on my Hall of Monuments. Keeping materials for weapons/armor will eat up your storage chest in no time. So, I kept looking for workarounds, but none of them offered me more bang for the buck than a second trilogy: which I got last week. I'm using the second account for storage mules and the first account for my play toons. Best $30 I've ever spent.

In your situation, I would heartily recommend the second account (trilogy + EotN) for play toons and keep the original account for storage. Like others have said, running two copies of GW on a single computer isn't hard. And if (like me) you have a slow second computer sitting around, GW will probably run on it so you can use the two accounts like that.

Just my 2 cents.
