From someone who is in the exact same boat as you, I decided Assassin. The most popular build out there, the JS>FF>DB combo, is very reliably for damage even when you -don't- use things like Strength of Honor and Order of Pain. That being said, you'll want to run at least one of those anyway lol.

I decided assassin because building a solid team is relative. You can do that regardless of class. What I would recommend, other than assassins first, is any class that can reliably preform in both a team and farm setting. Obviously Assasssins and Rits get the gold there, but farming is going to be key just as well as team play, IMO.

Not only that, but with the most popular assassins build, you can dish out ridiculous amounts of damage and keep up Save Yourself! for your team reliably. With critical strikes, Assassin can come up with a number of builds to keep things fresh and interesting along the way, even though they might not be as effective as the usual build.

HO-LY CRAP!
I feel like the luckiest kid around!

Thank you all! Seriously I am not used to a community as nice as this(let me tell ya the blizzard forums are evil if you never visited them for help).
You have all exceeded my expectations in every way providing me with such a wealth of information that would have no doubt taken months to start getting a grasp on had I tried to do it alone without asking for help.

My first was an ele(always loved mages, though made a mistake in taking necro as secondary I think) once it was 20 I made a Sin/r because I heard they could speed run quickly but again I am an utter noob and don't know how true this is now, I am finishing up the Rt/N and will probably lvl 1 or 2 others after this to get a play style feel.

Then I'll pick one and run it as far as I can with all your advice. This thread is perma bookmarked! I'll probably be back here with other weird questions later(like what is the advantage of doing a run with fewer heros/henchies? any? does it effect loot/xp? but I can look this up myself later).

So again thank you drkn, The Guildless, Adrianoz, Bloss, Silmar Alech, Vernphos, gremlin, IceBlue, Acehole2006, and wilebill for giving me sound advice and direction!

Edit: Also thank you Axel Zinfandel and Skyy High, did not see yours till I hit post reply

Don't know if anyone corrected this yet because I am lazy right now I don't want to read all the long posts (appologies) but this quote is incorrect. There are 2 rare pets in factions: the imperial phoenix and the black moa, the last rare as you said in the underworld (black widow spider)
The rainbow phoenix you get from gaining in titles does not count as a rare pet. Just thought I'd clear that up.

On topic: I know that some already mentioned that the HoM is accountwide and you don't necessarily have to stick to one profession through it all. Not gonna dwell more on that.
On best profession (possibly) I'm sad to admit that sin and rit possibly are the best as you will in many cases for speed clears and stuff are easier to find groups with (in the few places where people still team for stuff)

It is doable on any profession, especially once you get all the heroes. The issues are when getting a team is needed, something that can however be fixed by getting a friendly helpful guild.

Oh and once again sorry for my laziness and not reading all the posts lol

ALWAYS fill up your whole party, preferably with heroes (you can always alter their build, to some extent change their equipment, control them better - heroes are, as a rule of thumb, always better than henchmen, even if you don't have the money to buy them runes and new weapons, or you have just a bunch of skills for them), when vanquishing, doing missions, or doing just anything regular in PvE.
Take the least AI characters along if you want to farm something, like items for Nicholas the Traveler. While there's no difference between normal mode and hard mode when it comes to some drops (like trophies that Nick collects), every member of your party may get any item that is dropped, including heroes. You don't see those drops, because heroes use their superb AI to pick those items on the very moment they are dropped, but they are there. That's why all farming builds - like the generic spiritmancer, or the ele obsidian flesh, or permasin - are solo builds, with no heroes, unless noted otherwise.

You shouldn't bother about loot-scaling right now, though, just enjoy getting through the game.

Also, you might get some interesting info from the other thread running currently in Q&A.

As you asked for an easy way to get your hom points I'd suggest an ele with discord necros and standard mesmers + a SoS rit.
The ele's primary makes you a good choice for AP caller as you can spam your 3 pve skills without energyworry.

It might not be the best, but it is sure easy.

If you need buildadvice, something like this (consider bringing dwayna's sorrow and other useful skills): http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_3_Hero_Discordway http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_Mesmer_Hero_Midline http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Rt/any_SoS_Channeling_Rit

Necro for me, they are versatile apparently but I usually go with necro only skills (cept for some EotN ones). My heroes have the wierdo skillbars

Thing is though, Necro is the one I found the most fun, I'm sure some other professions are easier, but if they aren't fun, doing the 30-40-50/50 for your HoM will drag.

ok my script blocker blocked my post twice now, but to nutshell it(since my angst has subsided but my annoyance has not), the starting area for NF is RETARDED!!!

I made a dervish, he is fun to play, however quests that you obtain at lvl 3 that force you to face a lvl 15 is... RETARDED!
Quests that send you against harpies when you are lvl 6 and each harpy mob is lvl 7-14 and you cannot pull one without pulling 3 other harpies in the area....

And even on guard my heros take the fight to the harpie and that means even MORE harpies aggro...

Factions had direction and the 1-12 lvls flew by with interesting things happening. NF 1-7, and I am guessing through 10, is piss poor and hard to level or get anywhere in comparison. I don't know what I am doing wrong since I have not had this much trouble in either Prophecies or Factions, and I have spent WAY to many hours looking to see if easier quests are available or how on earth I am expected to lvl a dervish in such an unforgiving area...

I really wanted to get him to lvl 10 to send him to EotN for the snowball dominance, and right now it is nothing but an exercise in futility grrrrrrr.

Me and henchies are now finally lvl 7, all basic skills so far as I can tell. Any suggestions I welcome since this is driving me bat crazy.

Join a guild may be a good idea. Remember easiest isn't always the most fun good to have some challenge, from what I have read I think you may become bored of rit's quite fast.

Roll some pvp characters to get a feel of the professions at level 20 and try out skills you havent unlocked in pve yet in fort aspenwood.

I'd go with War, Ranger or Mes.
