Taking a character to another campaign, a questions.
So iv'e just bought guild wars and i'm having trouble deciding which character I want to be on prophecies. I really want to be an assassin which is why I was excited to hear I could switch campaigns. However i'd like to know:
Can you go to the starter area so that I may get the full plot of the campaign? Edit:: Also would I still be able to get all protector bonus's on the campaign that I switch to so that I can get all 50 points? Any help appreciated. Last edited by TopHatMonkey; Jan 29, 2012 at 09:34 PM // 21:34.. |

prophecies is broken into two areas:
A "new character" area, and then the rest of the storyline. The new character area of prophecies is completely separate and once you leave you cannot return to it (prof character or otherwise.) The other two campaigns have a small noobie area that teaches basic controls and whatnot, but Prophecies is the only one that has real story development there. There's eight character slots though, so you could always make a new character to experience that beginning spot :] And yes, you can get the protector bonus from any campaign start. The only campaign-exclusive title is Legendary Defender of Ascalon, which can only be earned by reaching max level in that starting area mentioned above. Also of note, Factions (the campaign which Assassin's are native to) is kind of a rough one to start on. I'd advise if you're going assassin first to head to Lion's Arch almost as soon as you get to man-land Cantha, and start on Prophecies from there (or get a run to Ascalon and start prophecies from the early point.) If you need any help, ya can add me (Press N to bring up friends list by default) my character name is Alay State =] Last edited by Alay; Jan 29, 2012 at 09:39 PM // 21:39.. |

Yes, foreign characters can go back to the beginning of another campaign, but you can't do any quests before the port towns, like Lion's Arch in Prophecies. Just run from LA to Ascalon City, and pick up the story in Great Northern Wall. Only Prophecies characters can play in Pre-Sear(Prophecies starting area), however, and may never return once you've left.

Wow thanks for the quick answers! But could I ask you to give me a rundown of per-sear Tyria? I can't really be bothered to play through it. Also alay, by as soon as I reach cantha do you mean as soon as the quest is available? I thought that it started in cantha.

If you start as a Sin, you start in Cantha, but not on the mainland. You have to reach The Marketplace/Kaineng City before you can change campaigns.
I'd also advise to play through presearing at least once. Given you want 50/50, you might find it useful to keep a char parked there to farm the daily quests for gifts, though it's probably faster to farm money to buy the booze, sweets etc. you will need. |

It's much faster to farm money for those, or farm event drops directly for consumable titles. Farming other players(trade channel) is faster still. Limited skill selection and low group size limits farming in Pre-Sear.

Yeah, it's only really effective at all if you're doing it on more than two accounts and can manage farming all the stuff on all the accounts at the same time. And if you can manage that, you can probably pull off the same thing farming feathers, which will be more effective.
On the plus side, a perma pre will probably eventually net LDOA, which is one step closer to 50/50. Plus, it's something to do when you just can't face another VQ and want something easy to do, somewhere pretty. Last edited by enter_the_zone; Jan 29, 2012 at 10:39 PM // 22:39.. |

A pre-sear summary would be: Ascalon is really nice and peaceful, except for the Char who are kind of evil and stuffs. Also there's giant scorpion bugs that no one seems to be too worried about. Then the Char find a way to burn Ascalon to the ground for reasons more or less unexplained until ending of Nightfall. And people after the searing are still not worried about the giant scorpion monsters... Which to me seem like a much bigger issue but hey... Last edited by Alay; Jan 30, 2012 at 10:53 PM // 22:53.. |
