Default Heroes, 2nd professions, and campaign questions

I've got the 3 campaigns (I'll pick up EOTN soonish). And I have two PCs up to level 8 in post Searing. Cool game, but I'm a little lost in some specifics on how the game works.

Sigh, yes, I apologize for all the questions, but I have really spent hours going over the wiki and these forums and not really finding these answers (that I can remember). Really appreciate any and all help with them.

1. Heroes - Pretty sure I understand heroes acquisition. Basically your PC gets them from doing quests (or, possibly purchasing) in a couple of the campaigns (but not Prophesies). But, my question is, can you "share" a hero that you gained with one character with a different character (all on the same account)? As an example, I create a character in Nightfall. He gets a hero as part of a quest. Can a different PC that I created in Prophesies "use" that same hero (not at the same time, obviously)?

2. Campaigns - I really want to use one specific character to do all the campaigns. Although I am creating several different characters with different professions in order to "acquire" basic skills that can then be used by heroes (I'll probably create some starter characters in both Nightfall and Factions in order to "acquire" the skills for my heroes from chars that can only be created in those specific campaigns).
My question is this, if I create a PC in Prophesies and take that same character through all the campaigns (in order), will that "gimp" the campaigns? What I mean is, if I take the character through Prophesies, and do most of the quests or at least the storyline, won't I be somewhat overpowered when I go start the other campaigns with that same character?

3. Secondary professions are sorta interesting. They seem to add a little flavor to the PC. But, I'm a little confused by them. As an example, I have two PCs. A W/R and a R/Mess. Both are now in post searing Ascalon. But, I don't seem to be able to log on with my Warrior, bring up his skill window, and change his 2nd profession to say, a Mess. Nor can I bring up the Ranger's skill window and change his 2nd profession to a W (so, end up with a R/W).
If I understand it correctly, I have to take the W/R to "Ascended" (series of quests, etc.) and then I have to have the W/R visit a profession changer who, for 500, will then let the Warrior have access to the Mess as a 2nd profession. Is that correct? So, even though I don't have any PC with Mess as primary profession, I'll be able to use the Mess as a 2nd profess with the Warrior since I have the Mess as a 2nd profession with the ranger? Hope that made sense : )

4. Follow on to number 3, let's say the warrior paid the 500 and selected the Mess as a secondary profession. Can the warrior now go back to using the Ranger as a secondary profession without having to pay another 500? I think the answer is yes, but just making sure.
That said, if I had another character, say an Assassin/Monk in Nightfall, the Warrior PC in Prophesies could NOT select either a Monk or a Assassin as a secondary until he pays another 500 gold to a profession changer NPC. Correct? And, he could do that while he was in Prophesies?

5. One more, and then I think I'm pretty set. Let's say (and this is all on one account) that I filled up all my slots with characters. And then I decide to delete one character, lets say an Assassin. And lets say that none of my other characters have a Sin as a primary profession. But, that I do have one or more characters using Sin as a secondary profession. With all that set, when I delete that Sin, what happens:
a. To all his skills? So, is my ability to use the Sin as a secondary profession terminated? If so, what happens to any other of my characters that had a Sin as a secondary profession?
b. To all the heroes? If that Sin had "acquired" a hero in one of the campaigns, does that hero just disappear?
c. What happens to all the goods that the Sin had placed in storage?
d. If I create another Sin later on, will that Sin automatically have all the original Sin's skill's?

Thanks,

Tarl

1. You have to unlock heroes per character

2. You can complete all campaigns with the same character - you just start a bit ahead and can go back to complete the missions you've missed. Yeah you have a bit of a level advantage, but in factions you reach level 20 in no time so you're not missing much challenge there.

3. Each character have to unlock each secondary profession, having unlocked it on someone else makes no difference. (if that was the question)

4. Yes, once they're unlocked for the character changing secondary profession requires no additional fee.

5.
a. no, as explained previous, only heroes have all your unlocked skills, your character must get them individually or get unlocked skills through skill tomes.
b. also explained
c. storage is account based, you'll only lose the items currently on the deleted character.
d. no, as explained in a.

Enjoy the game, hope it helped!

No. Heroes are per character. If you want to use a hero on character A then character A needs to do the relevant quests to obtain them, regardless of whatever any other characters have done.

First paragraph: good idea.

Second paragraph: no. When you travel to a different campaign you don't appear right at the start. You basically miss the beginner/tutorial areas. Plotwise you won't really miss anything; some minor details perhaps. The content will be appropriate for your level.

A character needs to complete a certain objective before they can change their secondary profession. In prophecies this is ascension (the Augury Rock mission, to be precise), in factions it is the Nahpui Quarter mission, and in nightfall it is the Hunted! quest.

After doing that, you need to unlock the rest of the secondary professions. The easiest way to do this is by paying a profession changer but there are also quests in prophecies that you can do instead (note: this has nothing to do with your other characters). Once you unlock a secondary profession, you can switch between them as much as you like whenever you're in an outpost.

Q1: Yes. As above, you can switch anytime you're in an outpost.

Q2: Not quite understanding this one, but your other characters have no impact on the secondary professions of a character. Your warrior needs to unlock monk and assassin via payment or quest like he would with all the other secondary professions. Having an Assassin doesn't unlock it as a secondary profession for all of your other characters.

a: Character skills are per character. Delete the character, lose the skills. They'll remain unlocked for the purpose of PvP characters and heroes though, since that's account wide.
b: As in the first Q, heroes are per character. If you delete the character you won't be able to use their heroes, since you deleted the character. The heroes on your other characters will not be affected.
c: Nothing. Storage is shared between all characters on your account. Even if you deleted all your characters your storage will be unaffected.
d: No. They're different characters. You won't get the heroes either.

1. no, you cant share them.... each char has to obtain them by doing quests or talking to a certain npc's (merc heroes, if they bought them)

2. not sure if i understand this question... i have played 11 chars over all campaigns + eotn without any problems (3 more in the works). as soon as you have your max amror fully runed, perfect weapons and a good skillset your char doesnt change anymore

3. you have to reach certain outposts in the game where you can learn extra 2nd professions: in prophecies you can do quest to learn extra professions (core only), in factions and nightfall there will be special npc's where you can buy extra 2nd profs. There is also such npc at the Great temple of Balthazar, but i never used it myself (not sure if a pve char can use it or not). It doesnt matter if you have other chars with other profs. Each char can buy ALL other prof if they want. When bought you can change it as often as you want (but only when in a town or outpost).

4. Each char has to buy the extra profs... if you did so on your mesmer, that doesnt help your ranger (he/she has to buy them too)

5. a) afaik the skills stay unlocked, but any new assassin or any x/A still have to learn them by using a tome or buy them if they didnt do this before. If another char already learned an assassin skill before you deleted your assassin nothing will chnage for that char.

b) nothing changes for OTHER chars, but the heroes from your assassin are gone too

c) they are still in storage

d) no, that pve sin will start exactly with the same skill as your 1st pve assassin. But as your old skills are still unlocked your new sin can use tomes to learn them quickly again

Well, thanks to the people who replied to my question. I think all my questions are pretty well cleared up.

I think the only change I'll need to make to my "strategy" (basically, stumbling around in the dark : ), is that I will take the one character that I decide to be my "main" (for all campaigns) and go visit the other campaigns in order to acquire my heroes.

1. So, I'll continue to create "starter" characters in all campaigns to acquire most of the primary skills I'm interested in for my heroes. I'll just take them a small ways past the tutorial areas in each campaign.

2. Then, I'll play my main char (probably some flavor of ranger cause that's what I like to play : ) through a portion of the Prophesies campaign (level 10?), go to Lions Arch and do part of Nightfall (enough to get Heroes), then take him to Factions and do the beginnings in order to get Heroes, same for EOTN (maybe).

3. Then take my main (now with heroes : ) back to Prophesies and go through all the campaigns in order with just that Ranger.

At the speed I play, GW2 will have long arrived by the time I get through EOTN : )

Thanks, very much appreciated. Great forum and great community.

Fyi, Factions doesn't have heroes either. That said, you'll have access to a trainer that sells nearly all the Factions skills for your profession. It may be of interest.

Also fyi, popping over to NF gets you a Warrior, Dervish and 2 Monk heroes for basically no time/effort investment. EotN gets you another Monk, an Ele, and a Mesmer. Obviously the further you go the more you get, but I wouldn't bother with more than this, especially for Prophecies.

True: but if their is a Hero you really want to travel with your party you might consider making a Mercenary Clone, (see the Mercenery Hero's thread http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/h...t10502739.html

but I for one would go easy on hero's while in Prophesies at least till you access the truly Lv 20 content; it was designed more for Henchies and Hero's can gimp the game as you say. I basically use Koss; and my Aleshia Healer Clone My PC and Henchies depending on Mission and which PC. I've only scratched the surface of Factions, but much tougher enviroment; I dont think Hero's will gimp that campain at all. BB.

Alright, more good info.

So, I don't have to worry about heroes in Factions, just pick up a few from maybe Nightfall and EOTN. And, that's good to know about not really needing a full party of heroes for Prophesies. I can pick up more later after I'm done for that.

Actually sounds really nice. I like to sorta/semi role play. So, I'll "hear about" some people (heroes) that can help me out. But, I have to travel to some distant lands to get their help. Once I have traveled and had some adventures, I'll return to Prophesies with some buddies : )

Then, after getting through most of Prophesies it will start to get hard(er). My buddies (heroes) will tell me, "hey, I've got a friend in a far place that might want to join our group, let's go there and find him". Or, something like that.

Cool stuff.

Thanks,

Tarl

On the topic of ascension and changing your secondary: if you get itchy to do that with your Prophecies character long before you reach Augury Rock, and don't care about 50k experience points, you can "ascend" about 2 missions in to Factions. Granted, you'll then have to pay for the profession change unlock (only in Prophecies to you get the free quests), but it's a lot quicker.

If you take heroes with you, they will level up, yes.

Nope, you've got to acquire all the heroes on every character that wants to use them. Bypassing this is at least part of the appeal of mercenaries.

No, especially if you go from Prophecies to the other campaigns, since they were largely designed with that exact progression in mind.

You need to unlock secondary professions for each character. The fastest way of doing this is becoming Weh no Su in Factions, then visiting a profession changer (like the one in Great Temple of Balthazar)

Pretty much, the only caveat being that Prophecies Profession changers won't let you change to Canthan or Elonian professions. Again, the way around that is the profession changer in GToB.

When you get a skill on any character, it becomes unlocked. This means it's available to use on PVP chars and heroes and also available to be learned from a tome for every other PC char on the account. Each PC however has to get the skills themselves, either via a tome, or the original acquisition method (trainer, quest, or cap).

So if you delete a Sin and then create another one later, you have to do everything again from scratch, though you can use tomes to get the skills. This is why character slots are so popular.

Regarding character deletion :

Deleting a character has no effect on any of your other characters because all of their progression including heroes and secondary profession unlocks are character specific.

Anything placed in the Xunlai Storage Box will not be deleted, but anything in their inventory will. Any customized items in the XSB will be useless and may as well be scrapped.

IMHO it's also very useful (most of all, I'd say) spending 20mins in Nightfall to get Olias, as a necromancer is really useful, especially as a minion master. But totally up to you, as others said already prophecie and factions are doable witout heroes at all. And of course the less you'll jump around the more you'll enjoy the story, as you have some linearity
