Default Craptastic lag, disconnects, can't connect

so im a new guild wars player, 3 weeks new to be exact invested 60 bucks into this game and know that gw2 is coming soon, ill say this if a-net is going to have so much trouble running gw1 servers and gw2 servers at the same time....

some one needs to get back to the drawing board... if youre a long time gw player and going to gw2 great!! i hope you have endless fun.....

but guess what im not gonna be playing gw2 so on the other hand i don't really care how it runs..... what's happening or whatever...

but if there's going to be massive disconnects major lag.... heck as of this post can't even connect.....

id say they better push back the realease of gw 2 a week or 2 or a month what ever it takes to make sure both games are gonna run at the same time.

----------

welll guess i don't have much room to complain since i just saw it's expected maintenance.....

but it's pretty busted up at times, are gw1 players gonna suffer and be 2nd rate now to all the gw2 players??? i hope not and if this is the case where do i get a refund

Don't expect a refund as you will not get one.

I have to say if that's the attitude you take during a transitional period, then I'd not be shedding any tears if you chose not to be a part of the GW2 community.

Actually, ArenaNet has a very, very good reputation for having the servers up and running almost constantly over the 7+ years that the game has been live.

You cannot connect right now because they are performing emergency maintenance: https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/fo...ge/1#post12635

I'm sorry that you have had latency issues over the last few weeks, but you can rest assured that it's not normal. At least not on their end.

I'm not knocking anet,

just saying over the past 2 weeks there has been horrible lag espically during the gw2 beta tests..... i know im not the only one complaining about the issue.

and i don't want a refund that was a joke for the most part...

but there has been issues with both games running at the same time.... just saying it's something maybe they need to look at a lil closer as the time approaches where both will be live simotaneously.

for the first time in months I had a 30 minute window of dc's earlier today. For the rest the game has been performing very good. Even during gw2 stresstests and bwe's , the game had some noticible hickups (wich would be ok imo cause they are finding a balance, during a stresstest people have been moving from gw1 to gw2 so part of the proces is meassuring that and seeing how much server capacity they need to move from gw1 to gw2) but overall, the process had little to no effect on gw1. wich in my opinion (and i know a thing or 2 bout networks and servers) a very nearly perfect record.

If you have had problems, this side is a very good place to see if it is at your end or at the games end. Earlier today I started a thread bout the described problems i had today and people did react that they had the same issue. So I know it wasn't me.

Last of all keep in mind this game doesn't require subs. So support and uptime could be lower then any game with sub's. But surprisingly, it isn't. So i think arenanet and ncsoft is doing something very well in general (despite the fact they are down sometimes). If you have other experiences I would suggest looking at the reason at your end and not at the server's end.

We have to do some emergency maintenance work at 5PM PDT (2AM CEST) for an expected four hours. More details : https://forum.guildwars.com/forum/fo...ge/1#post12635 ~SL

There's been at least 3 cases in the past two weeks for a few hours when it was anet's end. I know, I sat in the Temple of Balth, Kamadan, and EoTN and listened to people complaining about it, as gameplay was difficult (if not impossible) due to rubber-banding and such. These times generally corresponded to around when Anet was performing the GW2 stress tests. I would assume then, that we'll see the same issue when GW2 releases.

Such is the way it is. I'm sure whatever resources they have available, they're going to use to make the GW2 launch go as well as they can (which will still probably not be enough). GW1 is getting sacrificed for it. Digital morality aside, that's how she rolls.

That said, I still think scheduled maintenance during prime-time is pathetic. Flagging your scheduled maintenance as "emergency" just because you didn't feel like posting it in advance doesn't somehow make it acceptable.

"Emergency" maintenance is maintenance needed to fix a failure in the system. A bug was introduced. A router has died. A disk array has lost enough drives that the array is degraded. This is clearly not the case. This was "we need to shut down GW1 to do something to get ready for the future, and we just figured we'd do it at the end of the work day so we wouldn't impeed our work."

or they just planned it but didn't expect this impact. dealing with a network isn't as easy or straightforward as a single computer. Like I said, I know and played games that shut down for 4-6 hours for just a few updates. You could argue that games should announce this as much as possible ahead of time. But then again, I think that compared to others ncsoft (they handle the server) have a very good record considering it is a sub free game.

Shrug. It happens. Such is the unfortunate fate of online-only games.

I still saw a copy of Tabula Rasa being sold in K-Mart a few weeks back. I feel sorry for anyone who might pick that bad boy up.

God this is like part of small number of down times I have ever seen in GW1's 7 year history. The servers rarely come if ever so it must have been necessary and definitely not scheduled.

through GW's life time I cannot recall there being over ~24 hours of downtime. I'd say for a sub free game thats pretty darn good.

If you are having massive lag probelms outside of the emergency update, it's probably a problem at your end. My connection isn't the fastest under the sun, but I never get problems like you have described.

Also, since you're new, first time loading outposts might take time.

I can 100% vouch for that - we`ve never had anything over 24hrs and with regards to server maintenance , heck theres only been a few over the 5 yrs ive played ( unlike a blizzard game i wont mention but when they closed for a while to fix servers we had all the other games players for a while - so if we had crap servers id doubt they`d bother ).
If there are server issues anet has been on the ball trying to identify problems and fix them asap.

To the op - if you checked guru forums you`d have seen a thread which says ( and stated on guildwars.com ) emergency server maintenance.
So before you judge - its better to check otherwise you`ll be looking stupid for crying over something that isnt really an issue.
Also there is a thread somewhere that helps to explain about some of the types of lag we get and often its not anets end but partly our end and the nodes we connect thru.

As a side note, the rubber-banding from a couple weeks ago that occured during one of the stress-tests, was not a result of the stress-test, but rather an ISP issue. It affected the stress-test just as badly.
