Heya!

So I came back to gw1 after playing the sequel. Somehow, my pc is not able to run gw2 anymore. And I thought to myself - what the hex, lets play 1st installment. Now i'm back to gw1, have a rather active guild and things are going up. However, there are some things that I simply can't remember.

For one, what do you do with gold and purple item drops? I get it that I identify it, salvage upgrade if it has any worth, but what then? Sell it to merchant?
Also, with the whites? Do you collect all of them to sell them to the merchant?

Also, what to do with the junk like geodes, masks, residues etc? Merch them?

What to do with my birthday presents? I've got like 6 of them unopened.

Is trading real time trading still alive in the game? I don't see that many sales orders anymore, Kamadan is empty.

Is there any way how to preview armor on my toon?

Also, what to do with all the minis? Should I add them to my hall of monuments? If so, should I bind them to one character, or it can be spread out to different ones.

Well merch whites golds purples unless theyre good ones which you can sell to other ppl, Ask PC section for help valuing items.

Trophies like masks and geodes you can use wiki search use for em, keep or merch them, some may salvage for good rare materials too, so salvaging them into materials might be good option.

Bday presents, you may open them or sel them to other ppl. 7year presents sell around 15ectos atm.

Kamadan amer 1 disc is place to trade still. and it still has alot ppl there in peak times and weekends.

No there is no way previev armor as far as i know, u can look wiki for images of armors tho.

for miniatures, sell them or add to hom and delete em. HoM is account wide so dont matter which char with u fill em.

for the weapons, if you like the skin and its max, give it to a hero--if it doesnt have great mods, use the ones you salvage off others to improve it (heroes dont seem to mind one-off's). Some mods are worth more than the weapons you salvage them from!
As a general rule, I usually pick up all drops and merch white weapons and some of the 'trophies'--you might want to check the wiki for which ones have better values if you trade them in (nicholas the traveler has certain trophies he collects each week from which he will give you gifts of the traveler can contain items like summoning stones, sweet, party or alcohol points).

If you want the 'rewards' for the HoM (if you plan to upgrade your computer to play gw2 again sometime), you can put the minis in, if not then sell them (we have a pricing guide a wee bit out of date, but not too far off in Ventari's--price check forum). If you dont want to keep them after you dedicate them (for the gw2 reward) then you can trash the whites (as well as some of the purples), you might get a few people who want the golds and greens even if they are dedicated.

While you cant preview armor, you can preview dying it.

Ok, thanks for the replies, I kind of start getting the hang of it again.

One more thing though. What about the world economy. Players sell things for ectos and money. If say an item X costs 2e (22k atm), then if the price of ecto changes, would that affect the cost of an item? In other words, are the prices of goods affected by changes in ecto prices.

yes, it does.
the next tier up is armbraces...(no idea what the current conversion is...) so if ectos are 11plat and armbraces are going for say (not the current rate--please dont quote me) 35e each...and then say next week, ecto are down to 9k armbraces would go up to (not a math major and too early to do it correctly) say 39e each.
so yes, it does affect the market and what people sell things at.

a while back when I was looking for the everlasting tonics people would quote me one day 15e and then a few days later 20e...this was due to the change in ecto prices and the value of the item remaining (about) the same.
