Are there certain skills in game that when you get hit by them, you might go flying backwards or something?

Stuff like that is fun to me. Love it when I get smacked around. :P

Also, about pets, are all species looking the same? Or do they have different colors and not all look exactly the same? (like, a warthog and another warthog of the same kind looking a little different because of different colors.)

Not expecting it to be like that, but I thought I would ask anyway.

ah, there is knockdown , usually you can get that by going hammer as a warrior or earth with the ele.
As for the pets, I know there are quite a few different species, but I am unsure as to how different they look, Ive heard (its second hand mind you, so not sure on its credibility) that there are different color lynx. In my personal experience, all pets look the same if they are the same species (but I play more PvP then PvE, so I guess its not saying much).

I've seen a white lynx. Pretty cool looking, made me think of Siegfried & Roy.

Melandru's Stalkers are certainly dark, but not black. They also have a different color pattern on them than the lynx.

A Melandru's Stalker ponders a tasty snack.

A Krytan lynx in the tawny color variation.

You can't really see it in these pictures, but the eyes are a big difference too. The stalker has wonderful yellow eyes that practically glow.

Wow, they even put different eyes. That's detail!
And it IS pretty noticeable in these pictures. Looks like the darker one has orange or brown eyes, or something, to me.

Thanks for all the info guys!

It's too bad you don't fly back at least a little bit, land on your back, and then get back up and continue with the fight. That would be cool.

Also, another question: Can you name pets? Or are they just there with no name, or anything, you just call them by whatever name you want, hoping people will catch on?

Some of them look exactly the same (like striders and moa birds) but others are a lot different... like... er... Warthogs and lynxes... yep... one's a cat... bet you don't know which. there is one that i know of that looks the same but is a different color which is the lynx and the stalkers)

I don't know whether I prefer that, or to be able to name it. Guess I'll just have to play to see.

Still, it seems to me like they'e taking a big step backwards. Sounds like they've made them into mindless animals that will attack anything - and not allow you to have any control over their actions - and can't do anything with them, really. I guess since they're only allowed out in missions, they assumed that people wouldn't wanna do much with them, or something? I don't know. Once again, though, I will have to play to see -- and hope they make some great changes in the future.

like i said, i believe the ai is much improved. the ai on the henchmen is very well developed and i believe that the pets are getting there. there has not been any direct mention of plans regarding a pet control interface..
they will pretty much attack the target you are attacking, among other things. if you want more control than that, you are pretty much stuck using Otyugh's Cry..

I don't think I'll mind not having control; I just think it would make sense to have at least a little control over your pet.

It sounds better than most games, and I am sure it will all be fine, though. Though I still wish it was possible to do more with them, like tricks, and maybe feeding them to make them a bit stronger for a certain amount of time, with different effects depending on the food you give. Stuff like that.

Oh well.

I noticed the pets even attack the green Beasts. It was a little annoying watching my pet attack something that I couldn't even attack to kill the agro. I had to leave him behind on a few missions because he was trying to kill some Birds. I hope they fix that in the next BWE.

Often times you can attack them without using a skill on them first. Whether you have to use a skill on them first or not depends on whether they're green text creatures or not (which has nothing at all whatsoever to do with tamability).
