You can get the Teamspeak Server client and run it off your home computer for free, but depending on your ISP, computer, and number of people on your TS server this can really effect anything else you do on-line or on your system. Multiple companies out there Host TS servers so you don't have to use you own resources to run it and slow other programs down. The are offering 3 months of Hosted TS. Usually around 15 bucks a month, depending on server capacity you choose. You can run TS from your home with no real issues if you have a decent system and connection just so long as you don't get past 10 or so users. (atleast in my use of TS that was the case) For myself, I have a 30 person server, ordered two CE's for my wife and I, going to save a bundle using 6 months of free hosting lol

There are also plenty of free public teamspeak servers for which you do not have to pay a dime. But I suppose that would be counter profit productive for GuildWars.

Can you fill us in on the free public teamspeak servers? I'm interested, and my wife and I are also getting the CEs and want to try Teamspeak.

Not sure on exact url's for the free TS servers but you can find a bunch by typing Free Teamspeak in Google. Be warned though, those are public servers, and anything can and does happen on most of them. Anyone can join and say what ever they feel like. I have heard some are moderated, but never seen that myself. Best bet is if it's just you, your wife and a few friends to go to www.goteamspeak.com and download the server software, it's free, and run it on your home system. If you get more then just a few people playing use your free TS hosting that comes with the CE. If you have any questions about TS or would like to hop on the Knights of Winter server to see what it's like PM me. We are all just sitting around whining that GW is not out yet;p

Yes if you need help setting up your server you can pm me to help. It appears as though the Teamspeak Client search tool is down right now. As there are a lot of people on the teamspeak forum complaining about it. It is important to understand though, once you have found a server you like, you do not need the search tool to get back to the server. Just put the server in your 'address book'

Cheers!

Can someone post up the IP to their teamspeak server, or another public one. We really need a "offical" teamspeak server.

10 Friends is right around the "iffy" mark, I have a pretty close to top end pc and a 1.5mb DSL line and when I had a TS server on my computer, when it got up to 10 I would start getting choppy sound and a bit more lag in gaming, nothing too bad, but the sound was annoying. And the free Hosted servers are public, if you get the TS Server client and run it on your PC you can make it private. And I would recommend doing so, people just hop around looking for public servers to annoy people. Try out running a server on your pc first, see how it rounds, if it gets choppy or you lag then use the 3 months free and see how you like a hosted server. And once the three months are up, a small TS server, around 30 people, is only around $15 bucks a month. In my guilds case we play a lot of FPS's and other games, so it is well worth it.

During the last BWE, my family and I, used TeamSpeak and it worked like a charm. I had experimented with setting up my own server on my computer and then trying to have myself and others on my network connect to it, using the client software, but with no luck. So we just checked out the free public and clan TS servers, chose one of the free clan servers, and we all connected without a hitch. In order to make it private, we just created our own channel on that server, passworded it for privacy, and we had it up and running the entire weekend without anybody else ever intruding on our in-game voice communications. We kicked up the codec settings to at least 14.8 kbs for both our channel and our separate connections, and the sound was just fine, and with 4 people on the channel simultaneously, we never noticed any negative effects to the graphic operation of the game. I used it for a short test with some online FPS gaming in Medal of Honor, and it worked flawlessly. So based on my experience with TeamSpeak, we'll be running it for ALL of our online team gaming. And it was all totally free. Check it out. You'll absolutely HAVE to use something like it if you're serious about PVP, and it makes PvE much more immersive.

When you host teamspeak on your own 'LAN' you need to connect to the IP address of the computer that is hosting the server. Not the IP address of the 'Internet'. If your runing a firewall, you and your family need to allow teamspeak to get through. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Darkmane. I tried changing a few settings on my pc, forwarding ports on the router, relaxing firewall settings, and specifying the Host computer's IP address...all to no avail. I'm no network expert, and so may have missed something that would be obvious to another, but since using one of the free TS servers is sooo easy, (as long as you can get a list to choose from) we'll probably just go that route, for the time being. Thanks again for the advise on TeamSpeak. It helped a lot.
