Default Guild wars from WoW

Hi all,

I currently play World of Warcraft. I have not a huge experience of MMOs outside that, but I am thinking of trying Guild Wars even though I know very little about it.

I would like to know what is better about GW than WoW. Why would you recommend it?

I would say there are a number of reasons to play GW instead of WoW. My impression of guild Wars after my first week playing is that its a game that is going to reward those who get deep into it, its a game for the real gamer who likes to be challanged and impressed not just by the amazing look of a game, but also the depth and quality of the actual game.

In WoW you choose your character, gain skills over a long period of time, and can use any skill you have at any time. In Guild Wars you get vastly more skills for each character, can get the majority of them really quickly and can use only 8 at a time. From what I have been experiancing in PvP in GW is that this makes for radically different characters even if they are the exact same class.
You can also choose to get access to some of the skills and attributes of a second class.

What makes it good imo is that the PvE element of the game is an RPG, the PvE element of WoW is a joke, but in GW the story might not be to your liking but it is definatly an RPG, even if its not as large and involving as some out there. The world is huge, and you can play solo and still have a lot of fun. The PvP rules though, in WoW Warriors need to hamstring their foe's to beat most, there are tricks to beating each character, think of Fear for a Warlock e.g. but GW takes that form of playing, skill sets etc. and lets the player decide how to build a character from what they give you. This means trully that the better you are at the game, and the more you learn/understand about skills and characters the better a character you can create. Not only that but the difference in styles of character you can create are trully impressive.

I started out as a Warrior, crushing and hammering my way through enemies.
But I got bored with it, and made another character. My current character sits in the background of a fight turning enemies skills and actions against them, draining and feeding off their own life pools. This is exactly how the skills I select work in combat, it makes this game light years ahead of WoW imo because iv only played a week and iv got a character that is a demonic vampire in battle ;p

Some people might find the fact that in order to have a good character for pve or pvp you need to take time to learn the game, and in order to beat others you will likely have to have a clever build and be a better player, although luck plays its part, off putting. I like games that are complex though, and while the pve and pvp might not have a billion and one options, making a character seems to, and it is great fun seeing what you can create, and fighting others with it.
