Default second profession help, which to pick?

My guild decided to start over together with every profession being utilized. we were almost all elementals before with ranger as second.

I chose the Mesmer since nobody else wanted him, so far he seems to have some good power to him, but I am at a stand still as to which the second profession be. HELP!!!

I want either the powerful elemental or the healing of the monk. Which should really help make my Mesmer more valuable to a team while on missions? everyone likes a healer, but how is the damage magic he has? I am sorta of in love with te elementals damage radius abilites (fire storm!) and I have used that to wipe out many enemies at a time who surround my mates. I know what the ele can do, but how will the monk perform compared to the ele in terms of usefulness.

personaly I would chose monk, the only real problem with the elementalist as a secondary is that alot of their spells cost alot of power, so you will find yourself out of power most of the time, with the monk (even if you put no points into monk spells) you can do some low level healing and more importantly you can get a rez.

I agree with you on elementalist to an extent. You can use a conjure (insert element here) spell and one other low cost one. I've actually done conjure frost and frozen burst and its pretty effective for my playing style (just make sure your weapon has the "icy" prefix). As far a monk secondary, it puts you in a defensive stance. You won't be as hard hitting, but you'll stay alive longer. But be aware that someone may carry an enchantment breaker and then you're outta luck unless you shut them down.

Lets not forget Necro for secondary. With thier hexes they make a suitable secondary.....they have that one skill where you sacrifice life and gain energy--well of blood is handy too. I've never tested this but the kind of damage potential is quite promising ie life siphon then conjure phantasm. both mesmer and necro have many hexes that can deal with both warrior and casters alike.

I think that skipping the mesmer altogether works best if u want a team helper and a Mo/N for the best backup a party will need. Let healing and divine favour heal alot and blood spells boost the whole party.
