Default Vampiric bow string, why?

Perhaps I'm missing something, today I was thinking about it. What is the point in a vampiric bow string.

Maybe the life steal doesn't work how I think it does.

Here is what I think, everytime you attack someone, you get 5 life. If that's correct then isn't vampiric string, even a 5:-1, kinda useless?

Okay so you've got the fastest bow and you're attacking once every 2 seconds. Thats 2.5 life a second, then you're sitting here with -1 regen, thats -1 pip which=-2 hp a second. So you've got what, .5 life gained a second if you're constantly attacking with a 5:-1 fastest bow?

I certainly hope I'm missing something severly obvious.

Anyone care to fill me in?

Bumpified! I can only assume I am right and people paying 50k for a 5:-1 bow string are.... senile?

Anyone know?

-_- people are seriously spending 50k on these? And less on ones that actually make them LOSE life even while attacking? I've got to be missing SOMETHING.

I personally agree with you 100%, I hate Vampiriv strings no matter what. However, I can see it may be somewhat usable with skills like barrage. Assuming you hit 3-4 things, thats 15-20 life per shot.

I know I had some thoughts about using it with skills but it still hardly seems worth it for the price when there are other mods that could do better. You'd have to be in range of that many targets and if you NEED the life steal then you wouldn't want to be close to them (being close to 3+ usually means being fairly close to one, unless they're in some line or something).

It's good to know I'm not crazy. Usually when I come up with crazy stuff like this I'm wrong.

5/1 just sounds good to people... they don't take into account the -1 regen, which every 2 seconds = 4 life I believe if hp regen is the same as degen... Zealous isn't that great either... My favorite is armor penetration string now, a critical armor penetration shot is just insane.... 1XX base dmg + skill dmg.

Vamp with a good barrage is a nice quick heal, but thats why you have 4 weapon slots, simply swap out the bow for a different one when it's nolonger advantageous. Furthermore, while it doesn't show as damage, I believe that 1 - 5 life comes directly off the mob you hit.

Zealous is fine if you're attacking a lot and have something to switch to when you're not because you've already got regen you don't actually LOSE mana every second. Also the fact that a pip of energy regen is 1/3 mana per second while the steal is 1/2 per second (with a 2 second bow). You lose 2/6th but you gain 3/6th for an actual raise of 1/6th which is really only half a pip but it can really help if you're using a lot of mana or are, like with vampiric, using barrage.

Barrage with expertise would literally allow you to use barrage every attack and still be gaining mana, assuming there is enough targets.

Dargan like I said, the problem with that is if you NEED the heal you probably don't want to be close enough to hit that many targets.

i have a 5/1 vampuric moon bow, they attack every 1.8 secs, its also +5 damage that skips all armour and shit, and i only use it when i feel like puttin in some extra damage, on the other hand have a 1/1 zealous long bow for shooting mofo's that are far away.... 5/1 works well IMO.

mind you i didnt buy the upgrade..... i picked it up on the gates to kryta mission..... the only weapon i hav bought with this char was the half moon, which cost me 3k, its max damage and adds 20hp... which helps with the -1 factor.

you fail to see that it steals 5 health from that foe...dealing 5 extra damage every hit...which can really start to add up to a lot of added damage

like others have said, it's +5 extra damage that skips all manners of damage reduction. Over time it's starts to add up. In 30 seconds, a vampiric shortbow will hit about 16 times doing 80 damage alone from life stealing. Add in Tiger's Fury and you'd be doing sickening stuff

There is nothing wrong with that class combo...

The only combo I strognly have a problem with is Em/W. That's just plain dumb.

No, poison is life degeneration. A poisoners string simply prolongs the effect of poison on a mob. You don't get a bonus from a mob being poisoned (other than their HP decreasing automagically over time).

...because there are ranger skills that exploit both fire rate and arrow speed.

Also, regarding vampiric weapons in general: There are skills that allow you do deal damage to multiple enemies at once. I believe that vampiric will leech life off of ALL of them when this happens.

At least, that's how it works with the vampiric Axe my warrior has. I use Cyclone attack to hit everyone nearby, and the numbers (and my health!) clearly show that I'm whacking everyone nearby for extra damage and gaining extra life.

And as noted, other skills can increase your rate of fire, which obviously makes this better.

So, if you can pull that off, it's great. As others have mentioned, it's a good reason to have multiple weapons of a type ready in your weapon sets. Don't wander around holding a vampiric weapon, only equip it when you are actually going to use it.

I'll accept this as a valid reason, thanks.

Has anyone PROVED that this is how it works, do you just do 5 more damage on every attack, or normal then another +5 shows up (like ignite shot), or does nothing appear to happen except you do 5 more.
