Default difference: gold, purple, blue items?

Hi Guys.

I often see people in town wanting to buy a gold or purple staff, sword, axe,..
What is the difference between a gold and a blue sword? Is it some kind of ego thing or are there real differences?

Have *you* actually come across any of these items? If so you might notice some subtle differences .

I'm still a n00b, but I think the colours represent the rarity of the item, i.e.:

Blue - magical/special
Purple - rare
Gold - unique/very rare?

(a bit like the different coloured items you get in Diablo II)

The more special they are, the more powerful they tend to be, I think...

Blue generally means unidentified, purple is rare and both of these colours are good for salvaging with the expert kit. Gold is extremely rare.

It always pays to look at the stats though obviously, cause sometimes you can pick up normal items that are better than some of the purple ones I've picked up. One of the gold ones I got was terrible! XD

Yes I know what the colors mean. But I haven't seen a difference between a 15-22 blue sword and a 15-22 gold sword.

But people keep looking for _gold_ swords (replace swords with staff, axe, whatever you like) and I'm wondering if there is a difference between them. I mean, can I put more upgrade on a gold sword, or is the chance for a critical hit increased or why should I pay 5k for a gold item if I can get a blue item with the same stats for 1k?

As the previous poster replied, you have to look at the stats. You obviously would not pay 5k more for something with the same stats.

Ahh thanks, I have a gold sword that is worth more than my purple and the purple has better stats. Same with sheilds. I would never use it, but since it was gold I thought there must be something else going on that I couldn't see.

So if you keep a gold sword over a white sword even though both have the same stats then you are just letting your ego get in the way. Makes total sense now. I can finally clear my inventory.

gold usually have plus damage, like damage+15% while health above 50% or while enchanted, while hexed, etc. (for swords atleast, stats prob. diff. for staffs)
purple are usually unlockin items like staffheads, bow strings, hilts, etc.
and for me, when i find blue, they are usually precious, highly salvageable, and sometiems w/ the upgrades

This may be a little off topic, but....

What is up with purple items with no mods or upgrades on them? I have found 2 purple items so far that when identified, yielded nothing. One of them was a purple Runic Hammer. When I identified it, nothing changed. There were no upgrades and no mods on it. This has happened twice to me.

So, my question is: What is the point of it being a different color if it has no mods?

a purple/gold item with no mods, probably has a lower attrbute requirement than normal.

There is no difference between gold and blue. The collector item blue long sword is 15-22 with 15%dmg (enchanted or >50%HP), best damage ever. But people still wants to be distinctive, so they want a gold sword although most gold swords will never make up to the damage of collector item. lol.

I thought you could add more upgrades to a Purple or Gold weapon.

Funny, really, since I've had a few "empty" Purple and Gold drops, recently.

Acutally when I've salvaged a blue, purple or gold item that hasn't got anything special on it I sometimes get something good out of it. A haft or extra salvage or even a rare material. So if you are going to dump it, why not take the chance of using an expert salvage on it. You might just get lucky too.
