Default How do I unlock specific runes?

a lil confused about how runes unlock.

from what i read on other threads is that runes can be unlocked when it is identified OR salvaged.

so to buy a rune specifically (say minor divine favor) for unlocking, i would buy a armor that has been identified (as a minor divine favor) but NOT salvaged. and then i would salvage it in an attempt to unlock the rune. is this correct?

no.
you find colored armors in the wild (blue, purp, gold) and then identify them. some armors are stupid and have no "unidentified" tag, meaning they are useless. if you unlock a rune while identifying, use an expert salvage kit and like 80% of the time (for me) i get a rune.

right... but i'm wondering if SALVAGING the rune also unlocks that rune. since most people identify it first (thus unlocking the rune), when they salvage it they don't unlock it. now i read in another thread (which i can't find), there was a person who mentioned that they only bought identified armor so that they could know what rune they would unlock when they salavged the armor. basically this is what i need confirmed.

when you ID the rune it will say x rune unlocked and you can use that rune on any future PVP player you create

you keep the use of that rune even if you SALVAGE and get wood instead of the rune

if the salvage is good you will have a physical rune you can apply to your armor or sell to someone else but it is already unlocked for you so if sold the buyer can only USE the rune but not UNLOCK it

Postitorey it will.

EVERYTHING, you identify and unlock in PVE will be available for use in PVP.

Example:

You buy a Sup vigor rune.
You identify/unlock it.
You give it back to seller.
You now can use it in PVP.
Bought runes from the rune seller is NOT available for use in PVP.
Only VIA Storage.

Just cross your fingers that you don't come across a gold item, and identify it.
Then have your hopes crushed, when you salvage 12 iron ingots, instead of the real thing.

Happy huntin.

If you find an unidentified item, and identify it, you're rewarded with unlocking the rune whether you salvage it or not. I'm not sure, however, whether salvaging an already identified item will unlock it. I suspect as long as you somehow aquire the identified unsalvaged item, it will unlock, but I'm not positive on this.

think i might be out of it since all i've been doing is fissure runs, but you can tell what rune is in the armor before you identify it?

Use an Expert Salvage kit on the colored item before you ID it. You will get a rune that says (for example) Un-ID'd Ranger rune. From the graphic you can tell which it is Minor, Major or Superior. It will only unlock when you ID it. Using the previous example the rune could be for any of the Ranger attributes and the only way to find out which is to ID it.
Alternatively, if you compete in PvP you are gaining Faction. The Faction can be used to unlock Skills, Runes and Weapon Modifications for your PvP only character. To "spend" your Faction you visit a Priest of Balthazar in any of the major cities with your PvE character.
