Default Attention: The Tombs are not the Comp. Arena

Today, I spent about an hour and a half in the Tombs. I was not group leader, but the group leader was very polite and respectful. Announcing that he was building a team and responding to wisper.

For what ever reason, every time we had a group of 8 and started talking stragedy, someone would leave. Then another, then another. This went on for several attempts. In my hour and a half I only got to make one attempt at the HoH due to these morons (who wisper that they were interested in an organized group).

There was a time when, if you hit enter mission before checking to see that everyone was ready, someone would leave. Now if you have 8 in your team and don't hit enter mission, someone leaves.

This is bad. I have played in some of these groups that just click and go, they all suck. Some do not even get past the entrance. I have played in groups that were well prepared and had a lined out stragedy that sucked, but more than likely, they will make a good showing,

Has anyone else seen this?

Why would someone intentionally give a team some fame just so that they can play now?

Is this just a problem during the day?

I may have to stay away from that place till some of the morons get tired of loosing I guess.

Bad luck? =/ I make it a point to never PUG in tombs, either get a guild, or, as you go in, add friends to your list, tell them to add you, that you're always interested in good tombs, and if you impressed them enough, they will, eventually, you'll be able to just send a few tells, see if any groups are forming, bring your reliable friends, etc. Build a network.

:/ Yes, I joined a tombs group with 2 monks and the 2 monks end up being the first to leave.

There's alot of times this happens. That jerkoffs who think they should be in control dont stay with a group if they arent the one calling the shots. I've also run into a Monk who intentionally did a bad job healing, just to piss off people. Then when we failed the mission laughed at us about it.

There are alot of jackasses in this game. And they arent going away very fast. My advice is to make as many friends as you can outside of missions and PVP. Things that arent really important. Because when you have friends that you can count on, you wont be stuck with the morons of Tyria.

Monks tend to have less "patience" because they know they're hot commodities.

Oh, we're 6/8 and those other people are 7/8? Later, guys!

This has happened -almost exclusively- with monks for me.

Noob filter.

If I'm trying to get someone and they leave because they can't wait 10 minutes, I don't want them.

oh uh btw, Prav sucks. gg

yep... that's why I don't play there anymore unless its with my guild mates. sorry mate. comes with the territory of a MMO... Many Morons Online...

Incidentally it is also the reason the hall is SO easy to win anymore....

Hmmm, this is where my problem lies. My only choice is to PUG in tombs, because I don't have an active guild (my guild was intended to be between friends, then many of those friends quit / are just idle) and haven't built a good network of friends yet due to my frustrations with PUG's in missions, I generally just did them with henchmen instead.

Why not shelf the game and play something else better? It is not like there is a shortage of better titles more worthy of your time.

Your experience today is part of the Guild Wars experience, deal with it. That's the way things are.

Trying to see this from the other side: There are people who just want to play the game, and don't have the time (or want to spend the time), to stand around waiting and/or discussing strategy. This does not necessarily make the "morons".

I think that a solution for this would be to make it much easier to let other people know what skills and attributes you have equipped, so that this doesn't need to be communicated through chat (which is extremely time-consuming and error-prone). For example, if you could see in a single screen the skill bars of all party members together, this would already allow for some quick strategy building within a few minutes. This would also allow some basic strategy in random arenas, if you just had a few seconds to find out what skills your party members have.

Great idea BrokenSymmetry

This might help with another problem players have had.....the problem of highly experienced groups getting one or more noobs like me into the group without knowing it, then when it gets serious, then they find out....the hard way. If the Devs would include the UI to see exactly what attributes and skills, plus levels, that a player brings to a group upon joining, the group leader(s) could make needed decisions on strategy much quicker. Some might complain that it's too much information to share with others, so make it an option that each player choose whether to let the group see his/her attributes/skills or not (in the options panel so that you could not change it every two seconds). Also some may say this will discriminate against characters with some builds that are unpopular, but I'm betting that all would balance out.....just because one group wouldn't want a ranger with a unique build, doesn't mean that the next group isn't looking for a ranger with just that build for their team. just an idea built upon BrokenSymmetry's idea....tear it apart ladies and gents.

This is more the reason to introduce the join random team button in the tombs. Some people want to build a group with strategy and some just want to get a game in as quick as possible cause their time is short. I also like quick games in tombs when i have some time just for fun. And for the people that want to make a good group the option is there to join up with like minded others. An 8 player team arena is always more interesting than a 4 vs 4 areanas.

Ahh, screw the tombs, I joined a guild that actually GvGs last night and spent the night GvGing. We'll, come to the tombs as a team when we get bored and place those "I need to play now" children in a world of hurt.

Some of the responses are really disheartening. I guess, that's just less "real" competition.

To the rest, well GWG said that there would be a lack of brainpower around here for a while after release. I guess that same lack of brainpower has filtered into the Tombs. Was that too blunt?

Well if you want a "fast game", tomb's not your place. Or, MY group in tombs is not.

Chev, best advice is call people you know, fill the spots with people you pick up, and from those pick the good ones. Still, getting into tombs without an organized group is a sure loss.

it looks like many people have had this problem with the monks. so i decided to start a new monk char and go through the game. looks like a LOT of people had the same idea as me because most of the lowe level cities are FULL of monks. give it a few days/weeks and we should all be up there to help out!

those people that a making monks now may or may not make it to the end of the game. probably after the first quarter of the mission they'll be quitting the monk cause of:
- bad pug's and the crazy healing they have to do in them.
- getting grief from idiots that run off to die and blame it all on the monk
- entire groups thinking you are the saviour and blame you for mission failures.
- having to stare at red bars every mission.
- not dealing any damage at all cause they are mostly busy with healing now, if they want to do damage in high level missions monk is not the class to be unless you are in a all monk team and needed smiters.

that's what i'm thinking that would happen.
you really have to like to be a monk to be really good in it. if you are just doing it cause it's easy to get into a group, you might not like the game too much after awhile. I love it cause i find it a challenge in keeping my group alive. moreso if there's a leeroy in the group, usually i let them die if they run off hehehahaha.

i agree with you, this is my first mmorpg (if you can call it that) and i went through it with a r/e first time through. HATING the hench monks i decided most people must hate them too. and i would start my own. so far i am loving it!

It's good that you are loving it. they can use another monk. But not alot of people can play a monk well though. I've seen it happen where they just sit there and the others die. might be a bad connection. might be no real experience in the class. or might be some kid who just wants to hit things with his/her wand. If you make it to end game mostly with pug's then you are really good and should stay as a monk. They can always use another! it's still a huge shortage in the high level area's and tombs. Everyone wants to do damage and kill things. oh well that's the way it's always been with many mmorpgs out there. A friend who plays WoW told me the mission areas are always screaming "looking for healer!" lol!
