Default Ranger Question...

I recently started a Ranger since my W/Mo is 100% complete at the moment, until the new areas come out : ) ...but I was wondering what would be the all around best bow to use for PvP/PvE, mostly... PvP. I did however come across a +12^50% Half Moon last night while loot hunting, would that bow be good enough? If not, please fill me in, thank you.

ranger PvE builds don't work in PvP...ranger PvP builds don't work in PvE...it's an odd class. That Half Moon you found is a pretty nice bow.

As far as which bow to use for PvP/PvE, I'd always *always* use a combination of a long, short/halfmoon, and composite style bows. Long for "sniping", great to stack the poison from far away. Short for "melee" situations. I find composites/horn to be good for the "middle" range.

So... would that bow be good enough, meaning I wouldn't have to try to get a different, that one should do the trick?

Depends on what you're using it for. Since you're a W/Mo, a halfmoon will get you really close to the fighting...for a bowman. It's range is only 80'. With a long bow, you're putting yourself out of range of AoE spells if you're uphill. It's a give and take situation.

alot of a rangers use isn't revolved around the bow...there are some dmg dealing ranger builds..but these use so much more than the bows stats it's rediculous...I have a fiery halfmoon of marksmanship (15%) and an icy halfmoon of marksmanship(15%)....one for fighting cold monsters and one for fighting fire monsters..then I have a low dmg Longbow for pulling. It's all I've needed. That halfmoon you have is a perfectly fine bow...I wouldn't waste time looking for another one. If you find one or you happen to come across someone selling on that YOU think is better...buy it.

I can do away with one of my longbows, I think, too. If you're going to use it. XD

heh, thats a pretty generic and innaccurate statement. My current build works great for pve and pvp and no, I'm not gonna share it because your comment shows you wouldn't know what to do with it

Horn bows and Flatbows are crap. Horn bows have the worst attack rate and flatbows have the worst arc - i.e. you will miss if the target is moving. They both have advantages, but the advantages really don't make up for the crappiness of the bows.

Shortbows have the best attack rate, but their range is less than aggro range. Shortbows are the best when people are going to be attacking you.

Composite bows have the best arc. Their attack rate and range are medium. I'm not a big fan, but if I found a good one I would keep it.

Longbows have the best range, it is further than the aggro radius. They have medium arc and rate of fire. Longbows are the best to snipe with. Sniping means that you can be attacking the enemy and be out of range of their attacks.

Two things for you, as was stated before carry a 2 or 3 different bows. Personally I carry a long, a short, and a dead bow. I rarely use the dead bow but thats another story. Use the long bow for "pulling" I like to shoot it off with a poison arrow just for an added kick. As stated before also I use a short bow for when monsters have covered the gound in between us. The short bow attacks fast and rarely misses. I also have different strings and grips on both, like someone said, fire vs ice and ice vs fire.

Number two, if you want to do both cooperative play on pvp play you will probably want to think about using different skills depending on which you are doing. I change about half of my skills around depending on which style I'm playing but I rarely move any attribute points.
