Default How do you make money?

Hey there,

I was wondering whether anybody could help me. I'm at a complete loss! I have no idea where you all get your gold from. I have barely any gold. The most I've ever had is about 20k. I'm now at the fire isles and only have 6k!!! I've sold various items throught out the game and attempted lots trading (but hardly anyone ever wants to buy). How do I make gold as quick as everyone else seems to? My build is N/Mo.

1. Farming. Grab some coffee and go off solo killing the same mobs over and over again until you get your money.

2. Running people to Droknars for gold. Or doing missions for people for gold.

3. Panhandle

I was under the impression farming was frowned upon by Anet. I thought it was for this reason they have reduced potential farming areas. Also can a N/mo farm? And no I'm not going to beg? Do most people get money though trade?

Farming is fine, the devs simply nerf it when they think a particular area yields too much good loot.

As long as you keep a little variety in the areas you farm, you should be ok.

Buy nothing, salvage frequently, and sell everything else.

OK I have several questions then.

1)Can I farm as a N/mo
2)Where can I farm
3)Where can I get good drops. I always get really bad ones.

Uh, you can't trade thin air for those globs of ecto you need for your fissure armor after you've done everything there is to do, or for that +15% fellblade...

Thanks but this is quite vague. Surely some places are better for farming than others and I'm sure some characters will have a hard time farming, especially the support ones.

every character can farm...from a Mo/Ele to a W/Mo to a R/W....ALL of them can farm. You just need the right skill setup, a setup that allows you to minimize damage taken while maximizing dmg given...Mo/* and */Mo have the easiest time with farming...but all characters are capable of it. If you can't figure out the right build for your character to farm you don't know your character well enough yet....and should play the game until you do.

like I said, there is no use for extreme amounts of gold...therefore no reason to farm unless you enjoy it.

There is a need for all that gold. I need a guild hall but my guild is too small to do GvG. I need money for fissure armour. I need money for a decent weapon. I need money for my other guild friends who don't play that often. I haven't tried farming so I will. I was just concerned because my character is weak, being support and all.

Yep, the guy speaks the truth, although he didn't elaborate. Yes, anybody can farm for gold effectively. You might have heard that some specific class than can slaughter hordes of monsters in a few minutes and you may have see screen shots of all these rares on the ground. I used these types of builds and found that after doing it twice you will not get decent drops for a long time (only white items and tusk and horns, etc, sometimes nothing at all). I might have super effective farming for 3 minutes, but for the next 3 hours I would be going at the same rate as any other class. In the long run this is insignificant.

And there is no ideal farming spot. Like I said before, do the same area over and it's no longer ideal. Find several maps where you are capable of soloing the monsters and do them. If you cannot find such areas you are obviously not looking hard enough or you are not utilizing the full capabilities of your character.

And for best weapons, it's hard to beat the collector items. Add in a few upgrades and you will virtually have a prefect item. However, the exceptional vanity items like the fellblade, chaos axe, etc with the same stats as the collector items are worth fortunes, but you cannot simply farm for these alone.

The biggest tip I can give to people who want to make money is that trading to other players is not a good way to make money unless you have an exceptional item (15% fellblade, etc). Think about how long it takes for someone to sell their dye/runes/materials to other players? They could have sold to a trader and made up the difference farming.

"I need a guild hall" - Win A Sigil @ HoH...
"I need fissure armor" - you WANT fissure armor...you don't NEED it
"I need money for a decent weapon" - I've seen three max dmg +15% > 50 HP Fellblades drop in the last two nights....I've got three max dmg bows...one sundering of marksmanship(half moon), one fiery of marksmanship(half moon), one Ebon of Marksmanship(longbow)....all of them have been found on drops...all the upgrades were found on drops. You don't need to BUY a decent weapon they DROP everywhere.
"I need money to give to guildmates" - if your sole purpose for farming is to give guildmates(who don't want to farm themselves I might add) money....then you need to evaluate WHY you're playing this game.

btw: you have a pretty strong farming character.....just figure out what build works best. work off the Blood Magic...and find places where mobs are weak against your magic attacks.
