I would like to play guildwars, however I am confused with all the different district's. What do the distrist's stand for? Why would I choose a certain district? What is the difference between the district's? Thank you for your response.

Districts mean how many people can be in a town/outpost at one time. If one district fills, another is created. Say District one of <soandso> fills, it creates another "zone" for players.

There is some difference in districts, mainly that 1-3 of any major city is filled with trade spade and is much more laggy.

That's all. Any other questions, feel free to PM me, I'll help

yeah, they're all identical and you can hop around between them all you want w/that little district list in the top left corner.

if you want to form a party w/somebody or trade w/them, you'll want to be in the same district.

And to deny stupid common misconception, when you talk in any of the channels (!All, $Trade and #Team), it's 'audible' to only that specific district/zone you are in.

I see too many people talking to each other in local and then asking which district they're in so they can meet -_-

And where do we find that special district? Some unfound city in the underworld perhaps?

lol @ last two posts.

there are 4 types of districts:
korean, american, european and international.
You will be put in one of the first three based on your location. This will be your 'home district', altough you can change it later in settings if you wish. Each of these first three (kor, eur, am) can have multiple districts for one town or outpost. They are all the same, they just prevent that one district becomes overcrowded with players.
The International district is a district where you can meet up with players from each of the three 'home district' servers. So when playing in European districts, you could meet up there with players from American Districts.

Altough all districts are techniquely the same, some districts are known by the players to have a certain function.
For instance:
Lions Arch district 1 = market place (all Lions Arch districts, but no.1 mostly)
Droknar's Forge 1 = market place (all droknar's forge districts, but no.1 mostly. Smaller then Lions as a market)
Marhan's Grotto = (old) hangout place for many (rpg?) players
Fishermans Haven = (new) hangout place for (rpg?) players

Well, Europe has some more districts than just "europe". Back in one patch europe was terribly seperated from each other through special language districts. While those work out quite okay in earlier missions, playing later missions you'll have around 2-3 people in your district...
4 if that farmer just came back for another tour...

right you are!
Almost forgot about that, I moved from Eur to Am servers before the introduction of the subdistricts.
The European districts have English, French, German, Italian and I think Spanish? districts, where you can move freely between if 'Europe' is your territory.

Still waiting on the Dutch districts, so the other people can stop complaining about people speaking Dutch in English districts.

There is a limit to the number of times you can change your home district setting (Amer, EU, Kor), so as to avoid people changing their home just to take advantage of the Favor of the Gods. So you don't really want to experiment with it, cuz if you have used your 5 (?) changes then you are stuck with that last one being your home.

This has nothing to do with districts in a town though.

#1) 4 server location changes, used to be five, but people kept getting stranded away from their home server.

#2) Server location and district are two different things, America, Korea, Europe are server location, Lions Arch 1, 2, 3, International, etc are districts within a given server with International crossing server boundaries to allow people on the american, european or korean servers to directly interact with people on another server without using up one of their 4 server changes.

#3) Europe has districts based upon language, so you can group up with people who speak the same language as you

Guildwars is now beta testing for China and japan so expect more servers to be added in the future to support them or Korea to become Asia with Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc language districts.
