Default Whom should I use? What seems more successful in PvP?

I just got my final character slot to lvl 20 and all ascended, that was a Ranger.

I have an Elemental which can easily go Air, Fire, Earth

I have a Warrior with a Superior Absorption and shield with -2 dmg in stance. a strong warrior.

I have a Heal/ Protect monk

I am done with the PvE aspect now and wish to go more PvP and I have tried all 4 out, but with so many skills to choose per character I am at a stand still as to whom I should focus on to get good with.

I have played maybe 40 PvP matches now and see it is about even on how they all perform....except my monk which unsuprisingly is an early target.

I hear abot Spike teams in Tombs but I never get picked to join and gain XP there since you must be a rank 3 to be picked now a days (that is bs in my opinion.)

Which of my character classes will probably be the best to master in PvP first?

Ele/Mes - I use earth for pvp mostly as I hate the exhaustion from Air. Fire is a joke I hear so I am just a wards guy so far.
Warr/Mo - I use no monk skills so far and use a sword for Hundred Blades
Monk/Warr - I use Heal Other and Heal Breeze, Rest is protect and Amity for my own protection.
Rang/Mes - I use poision and phantasm alot and as I am the lone trapper so far I nevr get successful traps. Illusion is the mesmer end I use but may switch to domination.

thanks for any tips.

I'm a ranger guy (I have more lvl 20s), so I would use the ranger here is my pvp biuld for my ranger:

This is my build:
Beastmastery:7+1
Expertise:10+1
Wilderness:9+3+1
Markmansh:10+1

Bow: Short bow (15% dmg while in a stance) vamperic, fortitude
Bow: Long bow (15% dmg while hp is above) Ebon, fortitude

Skills
1 - Melandru's arrows
2 - Dual Shot
3 - Point Black Shot
4 - Tiger's Fury
5 - Lightning Reflexes
6 - Whirling Defense
7 - Troll unguent
8 - Rez signet

This build is hard to hit, that makes it a good build, when your targeted just use lightning and when it ends Whirling. When your not targeted use Tiger's Fury. You'll deal much dmg cause of the high attack speed.

This Build is good agains W/Mo (mending), and Ele (any attunement).

You can also find this build here:http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=89065

It's a decent build but it's only good for arena fights. It can be good in HoH though, but noone asks you since they always want a interrupt or a trapper.

If you want a HoH build, I would go for the interrupt
Here is a interrupt build you can use ( I sometimes use it, but I rather be a melandru's archer):

Beastmastery:7+1
Expertise:10+1
Wilderness:9+3+1
Markmansh:10+1

Skills
1 - Incendairy arrows {E}
2 - Distracting shot
3 - Savage Shot
4 - Choking gas/ Concussion Shot
5 - Troll unguent
6 - Tiger's Fury
7 - Whirling
8 - Rez signet

I would go for the Melandru's though.

Greetings,
Hector

Also R/Mes with mantra of resolve makes the best trapper.

Be ready to switch the Warrior to axe and go Ele secondary to gale the opposing ghost at the altar.

I am not a fan of Mo/W. Victory is Mine is probably the best W skill for a Mo/W and it is far to conditional. Switch the Socondary to Mes and grab channeling, drain enchantment, insipred hex, and insipired enchantment.

Your Earth Ele is good to go, just make sure you have Glyph of Energy.

This is the trapper I mainly use in the Tombs. And since you have a Ranger/Mesmer, you could easily become one.

Trapper:
Ranger/Mesmer
1)Spike Trap
2)Flame Trap
3)Barbed Trap
4)Dust Trap
5)Troll Unguent
6)Mantra of Resolve
7)Ressurection Signet
8)"Spirit"

Wilderness Survival: 12+3+1
Expertise: 9+1
Inspiration Magic: 9
Make sure you have mantra of resolve on whenever you plant a trap. You will lose 4 enrgy when the trap would get interrupted. But better lose 4 energy and plant the trap. Then loosing 6 enrgy from a spike trap (Expertise at 10) and you have not even planted the trap.
Also dont wield a bow. Wield a weapon that gives you extra energy. 47 Energy should be no problem

As you see this build is for a IWAY Team since you have a spirit when your team doesn't demand you to get a spirit you can take a skill which suits you best.

Umm, drop sprint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the F try Stormchaser.

I would also suggest dropping Troll Ungent.

We run our Trappers with Frozen Soil and Savage shot. Just switch to the bow to savage the Ghostly Hero when they try to cap. If you do not feel comfortable with Savage shot, grap Serpents quickness, and go with that while you wait for your Trapps to recharge.

If your part of a guild, then id advise you maybe try to forge a regular team for pvp. Pick 2 of your characters thet fit into the teams overall build best, and use these.

This is the most fun, and (when your teams tactics start to come together)
the most productive way to pvp.

I do not have sprint in it!. how can i drop it. If you mean get sprint, uhm.THat's not that smart, because I think a trapper should focus on his trapping totally. With sprint he might try to run the flag or whatever, and that way hes not doing his task. And the trapper loses a skill in that way.
A trap, healing, or a way to ensure you set out as much as possible traps.
Spike/Dust/Flame/Barbed , Troll Unguent , Mantra of Resolve

Nope its my only healing mate. Since it's +10 its really strong. An IWAY Team doesnt have healers. So I really think you should equip TU.

About Savage Shot. Possible. But not a must-have I'd not choose for it.
Frozen Soil. Uhm, yea it is possible. But my place spirit was free for whate3ver spirit the party asks you to equip.

I second this. I know its hard to delete all that hard work, but by rolling a PvP character you can test lots of different builds pretty quickly. Also you'll find that since all of the PvP weapons are such are max and customized, your character will also usually be a lot for efficient in terms of damage.

It also depends on the type of PvP you want to get involved in. Builds differ between Team Arenas, Tombs, and GvGs. Also it depends on if you have good voice communication with your fellow teammates.

Anyway, that said, I think that monks are probably the hardest class to master for PvP since they are so frequently targeted - but they are also in the highest demand. So if you get to be good at monking then you can generally get into a lot of PvP groups. Rangers (trappers/spikers/interrupters/flagrunners) tend to be very common as well, so if you are good that them then you have a chance to get into a lot of groups.

Ohh, I read wrong, Spirit, got ya. I mentioned Frozen for the spirit. That requires skill at wilderness 16, but it makes battles vs. IWAY really easy.

And Troll Ungent/Savage shot:

I can see how you would not carry Savage and bring Troll playing IWAY. They never really have a chance holding the hall anyway. If you have a healing squad, and you have a chance to hold the hall you will want to protect that spot on the altar. You will Savage shot the enemy's ghost if they kill your's and you are trying to hold control of the altar.

Why do you have to use one of your PvE characters????

Why not just open up all the possibilities and make a PvP character instead. I could never understaned PvE players' attachment to their PvE characters when it usually puts them at a disadvantage when PvPing.

I think until folks really get immersed in PvP they don't want to lose all the effort they expended in PvE, plus they really don't recognize that they are indeed at a strict disadvantage when compared to the perfect mod and customized weapons.

We run into this issue off and on since we have so many people new to GvG play with us. Our rule is that people have to have a GvG ready character - which means a rolled PvP character and sufficent unlocked skills/upgrades/runes to be viable, in addition to a build that makes at least some sense for GvG. So many times though I find myself having to explain why that uber PvE toon just won't cut it, or why that build that owns in random arena is going to drag down the entire team..

Nobody air spikes anymore, obviously the reason why you no longer get piked for them.

If you want to do the Tomb of Primeval Kings, I suggest turning your Ranger into a trapper (Make sure you have a +10 energy staff and Mantra of Resolve).

The monk could work well for that if you can find good balanced teams that don't care about Rank or a guild of like-manner.

Anything that works is good for 4vs4.

I use my pve warrior in pvp simply because he has equipment that's not too far behind pvp-only characters, and I like using 15k armor I also never play my warrior in tombs, only in CA, so if I were to enter the tombs with my warrior, I create a pvp-only.

Plus, I don't have to waste 5 minutes rolling a character if I just select a pve one.

Yep, but we have a disrupting hammer user for it sometimes(or whatever its called). I think the trapper should no tey to disrupt with weapons since he can not do damge with it. and warrior has like 2 or 3 disrupting hammer mastery skills in his skills bar. and he can keep a person down for a longer time than i can with savage shot. without losing my goal. ->trapping

IWAY can hold hall. we hold 7 times.. Offcourse that can be outclassed by balanced builds. but hey, i dont say we didn't beat balanced builds with our IWAY Whatever. We beated Sr Cov'man flawless; we had a henchie!

But Chev, every build has it's advantages and disadvantages. IWAY does, balanced does, look at Korean builds. Much anti-casters etc. Also every character has it's own playing styles. That's what makes the game fun. So I think there is no best way to play a character. It depends on the way you play, and how you like to play your characte.r. >Maddie< Doesn't like Savage, that's just what I wanted to say.

So, I gave Akilles a build HE could play, that doesn't mean that your build can't suit him. It's in the game to play different builds with a character...

great input guys, thanks a ton, i figured i would go more Ranger.

As for why i use the PvE is I like to go back every now and again and I like that i have instant access to skills that i dont have to unlock.

I have been playin loads more PvP and not Tombs to see what to expect more and more.

As for weapons I have the weapons with the mods only diff is a req. for max dmg may be 1 or 2 higher. Like my ranger whom has a perfect +30HP max dmg and damage 15% above 50% health but she also gets the armor i like. my monk uses green items

It's up to you of course but if you like PvP keep considering dropping one off.

It's so much more fun to be able to look through a list of skills and conceive a notion of something that might work and try it out.

You have a war/mo and a mo/war. You could drop one of those for PvP.

Anyway you look at it you're limiting your fun. You can never explore Necro at all the way you have it. War/Mo's are outright ridiculed and many teams won't even consider them. I think they have potential but just the fact that 9 out of 10 that play them don't realizes it makes teams shy away from them.

The best you have is the R/Me for trapping. Ele/mes gets you a spot now and then as well.

Get your trap skills up and Mantra of Resolve and there are trap teams that'll take you.

The biggest drawback for me with PvE characters in PvP battles is the mods -including the right weapon and rune. For example if you want to be a spike ranger you want superior Marks but for trapper Wilderness is better. etc.
For smiting +20 enchant is better than +5 armor or +30 health.
Etc.

I think one slot dedicated for PvP helps a lot.
