Default Question about leveling or training a new pet?

Ok i finally sent my original Stalker off to greener pastures and got myself a new white bengal tiger. I want to keep him until i defeat Shiro then i might get a nice little phoenix or just keep the cool bengal, he looks uber cool. I just answered my first question which was do pets get exp from quests, that's a big no. So what is the quickest and dare i say easiest way to level or train my new cool pet?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure whether this still holds truth, but as far as I remember pets gain XP even when dead. So, for instance good lvling my pet was soloing first part of Elona's (the minotaurs - as W/R). Pet died instantly, but lvled...

if your character has access to the tombs just do 2-3 barrage/pet runs and it will be 20

If you want dire, you should max out BM and let the pet do all the damage. Apparently not die too much and not take too much damage.

I done this with my stalker, from level 5-20 as a dire. It took 6 hours. Straight. D:

(This is Red on my mate's account)
Jus' poppin in to warn you not to do what my friend did.
If you want the Phoenix... please make sure you get rid of the tiger BEFORE facing Shiro. o_O;

That is all.

Quoted for truth, with added emphasis on not letting the pet take damage (this seems to be the real deal breaker for most people).

Pretty much anywhere you can solo is the best place for leveling your pet fast. Any place you can solo while controlling who is taking and dealing the damage is a good place to train your pet. The more easily you can control your environment the more easily you'll get the pet evolution you want.

...and if only sigs were enabled, mine would be a simple, "For more detailed information about what the heck I just said, head over to The Pet Guide."

I agree with the tombs run. Each run gave my snow wolf 2-2.5 lvls everytime. Tomb runs last around 1hr. and green loots at the end so not bad at all, what's bad is the pet is designed to take the hit and die with the B/P build.

Default pets xp

heres a question, is there a way to see how much xp ur pet has and how much left till its next level?

on another note, maybe this should be a change in anets hud, maybe have a second, thin green bar going across the top of the life bar of the pet, give us a general idea of how much xp it has, % wise i mean

Tomb runs are really awesome, but leveling your pet via tombs wil guarentee a hearty pet or elder if it was aggressive instead of playful.

To the OP, if you want a dire pet be prepared to spend quite some time killing lvl 10 monsters with your pet while tanking most of the damage...

We don't have any such interface yet, but I'd second your request for one. It's not the highest thing on my list of priorities, but seeing how much exp your pet has and/or how much it's leaning towards a certain evolution would be beyond awesome. I think I would cry for the sheer joy of it all.

I'd be happy if my pet attacked when and what I wanted it too.

for dire (assuming you have chapter 1) -> go to scoundrel's rise (north of gates of kryta). put most of your attributes in beast mastery, then the rest in wilderness survival and expertise. i brought charm, troll unguent, symbiotic bond, brutal strike, feral lunge, disrupting lunge, storm chaser, and whirling defense. comfort animal isn't needed if you have symbiotic bond, but if you dont have that take comfort animal and another shout instead of storm chaser. in scoundrel's rise just attack once and let your pet finish. this is mostly for lower level pets and players, but its still a nice controlled environment for higher leveled characters, just don't disturb the large group of bog skales.

good luck

You can take on the Bog Skales if you have Symbiotic + the healing pet attack + Troll. Easy to get to the level 14 Mergoyles which are easy for the pet that doesn't need energy and are easy to kill.

Can't find it now...there's a thread about levelling a White Tiger to Dire/20 before capturing it....Basically:

1) go to House zu Heltzer and leave into Ferndale via the SE exit (go alone, no equipped armor, a vampiric weapon...and if you can, after drinking from the Goblet of Corruption (before finishing the quest...you WANT the degen))

2) run into mobs and die

3) after rezzing at a shrine some distance into Ferndale, look for a White Tiger on or nearly on the rez shrine...anything too far away and it won't work.
Took me about 26-28 (lost count) tries before I got one close enough to work.

4) provoke the big kitty with a lame attack...do as little damage as you can...I used a lame fire wand maxing at 6 damage.

5) let the kitty kill you...the vamp weapon -1 and Goblett -2 degen will get the job done quicker.

6) go make a sandwich, put in a movie and periodically check your future pet's progress.

7) as the big kitty kills you over and over for the next 1-2 hours, it will level up and develop into a DIRE as it doesn't ever die during the process of having you for lunch.

8) at level 15 or better, charm it in the Dire evolution...I waited til level 20. During the charming process, you might want to re-equip your armor...your kitty is pretty tough now

NOTE: There are several locations where animals spawn at or near rez shrines...keep an eye out, you never know what you'll find.

OK ok ok...I feel stoopid now....it's a few posts down:

Default Leveling pet in Cantha

I'm having quite a bit of success in cantha starting with my level 5 phoenix doing the following, first a few runs out of Tsumei Village to clear the Crimson Skull down by the peninsula. Then leaving from Zen Daijun there are level 11 bonsnaps and the level 16 Dragon Lillies are providing Mr Grouchy with loads of XP without dying once. I rezone at Sunqua Vale and do it over again. I take a tank and monk henchie the lillies focus on them allowing my pet to fight unnaposed. I clear the entire lagoon of the level 16 lillies. If you try this be mindful that the lillies cast diversion when this hex is on you dont use a skill. Mr Grouchy started at level 5 and is now level 12 playful with very little work.
