Default RP/PVP chars, the difference in PvP?

Are there any advantages of PvPing on an RP character over a PvP? I think you can get everything, except different skins for swords and stuff. Am I right?

Also is there anyway to do a /who? In WoW you can see if anyone from a certain guild is online, can you not do that in this game?

RP characters have access to a select few--albeit noteworthy--items that PvP characters cannot. In addition, RP characters can have multiple sets of armor to switch back and forth between as needed.

However, unless you're planning on getting into high-end GVG or HA, it's not entirely necessary to outfit an RP character for PvP.

Leaving WoW because the PvP sucks, I came here to do just that. Why dont top guilds use pvp characters?

About how much would it cost to equip a monk in the best gear for PvP?

And is there any difference from the cheap armor between the 15k armor and the really expensive stuff?

For the reasons I outlined above. Flexibility.

Monks are probably the most difficult to outfit. Getting all the armor and weaponsets you'd need is no small undertaking.

Negative.

15K armor has the EXACT same attributes as the chaper version, its there just so you look cooler.

why do i use PVP characters for PVP:

1-my guild is asking me to use a certain profession that i dont have in RP

2-my guild is asking me to use a certain skill that takes a whole 1 hour to unlock for my RP character, but in PVP you can just exchange "points" which are called Factions to make it availble to PVP characters only

3- since you cant equip more then 8 skills at a time (unlike WOW) every character needs a "build". sometimes the builds that i need for PVP are very diffrent from RP, so i dont bother changing my RP build, because i know that i will be using it next time i log on to that character

4-its just fun creating new characters with the ugliest face/hair/name combinations possible

One thing to note is that you can only have two weapons for your character if you make a PvP one. A warrior, for example, might want a vampiric, furious, ebon and zealous weapon for targetting different enemies for the greatest damage output and helms without superior runes to cope with DP. It is, therefore, arguable that PvE characters have an advantage over PvP characters however insignificant it might seem.

To fully outfit a monk (notice the fully, you don't need all of this to be competetive and you don't need it all to play every build) you will need something like:

+5e axe/sword of fortitude
-5e axe/sword of fortitude
+5e axe/sword of enchanting
-5e axe/sword of enchanting
forgotten fan
+30/-5 shield
+45/+5 offhand
victo's bulwark
shields with +armor against blunt, slashing, lightning (not entirely needed, but useful)
recharge/+30 offhands of each attribute
+15/-5 +30 health offhand
+15/-5 + other mod wand

At least full Judge's and Health armor. Headpieces of each attribute with minor, major, and superior runes.

Preferable you'll also want a set of the lowest AL armor possible with all sup runes and a double vamp weapon (for killing yourself).

Hmm, I think that's it.

All of the things that Makosi mentions are legitimate reasons why RP characters are desirable for high end PvP.

However, they are all easily FIXABLE by ANet. 4 weapon slots is trivial to implement/add. The multiple armor thing is probably a bit more complex as it's necessary to add quite a bit more to the character creation process.

I'm really hoping with Nightfall that we'll see this because it will finally sweep away the most glaring differences (in PvP) between RP and PvP-only characters.

It's a mystery to me as to why ANet has neglected this for so long. Maybe they still want to push people through their PvE content. That's sad because there is no need to push. Probably 90% or more of the playerbase is here for the PvE. The high-end PvP players are a small segment and shouldn't be forced through content if they don't desire to play it.
