Default Flickering Fog in the Distance

It hasn't really be a nuisance for me, but I've been wondering what causes the fog in the distance to flicker now and then. I'd like to correct the problem, but if it requires a lot of effort (or buying a new video card, which I can't do right now) then I'll just make do with a flickery view.

I have an Nvidia FX5700, which runs GW fine at 25-30fps with fairly high graphics settings.

the fx 5700 is probably the problem. the fx 5x series just did not do very well. there are many cases of the 4600s beating out most of the 5x series

Well, like I said, I can't get a new video card right now. Wish I could, but it isn't in the budget. I remember a lot of the 2D effects in Halo would flicker (smoke trails, explosions) and a driver update fixed those real quick. Updating again might cure GW's flickering, but I think I have the latest drivers already.

ATI Tray Tools will allow you to experiment with some fog table settings that may fix your problem. Just don't change too much at once and make it easy for you to reverse the changes, etc.

But, from what I have read and seen, Guild Wars has some inherent issues with distant rendering,

My original card was an nVidia FX 5900 and my new card is a Radeon 1300, and I have seen the same distance issue on each card.

What will happen is that distant objects <buildings, tree etc.> will alternate perspective in a cycle. Think of it as what you see with one eye closed and then the other eye closed, the image shifts.

I haven't been able to fix this glitch. It is most noticeable when you stand outside Shing Jea Monastery in Factions. It's a wonderful, but flawed, view of the distance building, trees and mountains across the Sunqua Vale.

ATI Tray Tools? Um, I have an Nvidia card, I don't think it'll work for me.
