Well, I love being in a guild. Having an active guild/alliance chat makes whatever you are doing so much more fun, as being able to talk to others is one of the reasons i play this game. My guild is full of nice, friendly people and they don't give out random invitations - only to people they know. But that's just me, I suppose.

ye i must admit i wouldnt be able to bear not being in a guild ATM as the guild im in now has grown into a gr8 friendship on the game were we all help each other, farm, etc etc. Tho i understand why some people dont want a guild i find a gd chuckle between friends makes the whole game a much richer expeirence rather than just soloing it as some people have stated they do

Pleased to see that the last few posts have confirmed my suspicions that there are decent guilds (and happy guildies) out there. Keep the flame flickering

I think every guild had their ups and downs. The guild I'm in is a good guild with mature players. but then not many people are on all that often becasue we all have jobs and are to busy in real life to get on. Tis the problem when the majority of the guild is 18 or older. But I still love the guild, and when theres like 10 people on its awsome.

Honestly though if I wasn"t in that guild I would have quit guild wars long ago.

Yeah same. I almost quit GW end of 2005. But when I discovered my guild, the game took on a whole new meaning for me. The only reasons GW has me hooked is the human aspect, 'cos honestly the game has had gotten dull for me 2 expansions back. For quite a while now, I've been in an events organizing role which has been quite challenging and interesting. Kinda hard to experience any of it while guildless, and surely hard for a person like me to explain how it feels like till you've been in such an in-game social circle yourself. I'd say give it another go.

Yeah I'm in the same guild as Cats and I'm he main culprit for the madness in our alliance. I play the flute on TS as well as singing and general mad voices (I voice characters in her vids) so yeah our guild is mad up of nutters but for some reason we have one of the most organized guilds in guild wars.

You have to grind HA or hang around RA/TA to get an invitation, while guild officers needs to do the same. This is a just time lost both for you and the guilds. There are many guilds out there looking for players, and players looking for guilds.
I'm in a small guild where we have gotten to be a nice friendly (and mature) group over the last year. But we'd like more people to get some more activity going and my pet peeve with Guild Wars is that the entire guild system is very poorly designed and supported. The halls and upgrades are nice. Everything thing else needs work.

First, it's too easy to start a guild resulting in large numbers of fledgling guilds that never get off the ground, yet they compete for recruits on a equal footing. Second, recruiting is a nightmare. If you want/need to go outside your immediate acquaintances you are forced to stand around spamming or use the very limited message ability in the party search window. Third, it's way, way, way too easy for people to join/leave a guild. So if you are lucky or persistent enough to get a recruit and because there is a two hour window where no one is on to give the new recruit enough love, attention and/or free gp they bolt without making any real effort to get to know the guild or the members.

Do I like being in a guild? Yes a good guild really is the difference between making this game great vs just good. Do I like the guild system in GW? No. If eharmony can supposedly help me find a spouse I would think that GW could do a better job of matching up guilds and potential recruits.

The reason I'm in a guild is because we have a lot of fun events and helpful people (and a decent cape design ).

I don't like GvGs any more. I was in a gvg-based guild once, but it fell apart. PvP has never been the same since.

I have been guildless quite a few times and I can't stand when people ask me if I need a guild. Of course I don't. If you're guildless it's because you haven't found a guild that has the same goals as you do, and people should respect that.

/waves at Cats (old guildie, now on friends list- (this is Breeze btw) )

Hehe, good stuff.

If I was forced to distill a reason from all the possible reasons that Guild Wars has concerning the challenge of building strong guilds, it would be too much segmentation of the playerbase. The games greatest strengths work counter toward random player interaction.

Assuming you don't already have a coterie of real life friends or historical guildmates, if you aren't pugging, you aren't meeting new people and building new in-game friendships.

You certainly aren't "bumping" into them on your adventures. Nor are you crossing paths with them consistently while in Outposts. It's a very fractured social scene.

Some of you who are blessed with outgoing and engaging personalities may thrive, because you are the types of people that grab the hibernating bear by the tail and rouse it from it's rest.

But most social wallflowers will simply find no need to change their ways because the game really doesn't give them a shove...or a nudge to do so.

Doesn't sound like an ideal scenario. Why don't you try another guild/alliance and see how that works out for you?

Thats my reason to,i have been playing this game since it got out, and never joined a guild.

I am however, looking to join a guild now, the thing is: It has to be a guild with nice mature members, so no children. That drasticly reduces the amount of Guilds i can join, add to that that all Guilds claim they are good and nice and then its REALY hard to know wich one is good and wich isnt.

when i bring people into our guild i let them know its a tryout period. see how you like it, see how we like you. if you like it, stay as long as you like, if you dont, feel free to try somewhere else. joining a guild for feel shouldnt feel like you are getting married...

our guild has quite a few long time members and we have alot of older (not necessarily mature =p) players. but thats cause we are comfortable now with each other and can play fools around each other and the alliance. just cause you grow old doesnt mean you always have to act old

i've always been fortunate with the guilds i was in. I've been in 3 serious guilds now and so far i cant complain. Alliances were always good too (some of 'em lol )
Fridaynights were always a blast! Almost everyone from the alliance hopped on a TS server and started joking, singing and whatnot. Everyone was drunk as well. Laughing yourself sick about things that arent even funny. Yelling on TS (ex -[DS] alliance might recognize this ^^) "SHTEADY NOW" in an Ali G accent. Good times, happy days...

In the guild i'm currently in we hardly recruit ppl we dont know. Everyone is a friend of everyone, in RL or online. Some guys have gotten invites to play in the core of top ranked guilds, but turn them down everytime because they dont want to leave.

I know I'm guilded, but I thought I'd like to have a lil' both sides of the fence approach to the situation. I personally enjoy being in a guild, I'm in a guild right now where I've had the opportunity to game w/said individuals for almost 10 years now. Obviously we came from a different game, but when everyone flooded from the old game over to GW, this guild ended up being the "Magestorm retirement home." After trials and tribulations of other guilds left over from the game deceased by Mythic, we were able to group up as one and still keep part of our old community.

So, based off of our old guild structure from the previous game, we've been able to have a productive alliance now, that we work with very closely almost on a daily basis. We get to see multiple tags in everyone's GvG's to fill in for that guilds core and improve everyone across each guild. For a guild or two in the alliance that may suffer from a shortage of a member or two, it gives us time to recoup and still depend on our allies to assist us, and continually give us the pick-me-up that we need to continue on w/o a hitch. So, for me and how our alliance operates it's quite nice to work so close w/other guilds and have a tight nit relationship like that. So, for me, the guild experience has been quite beneficial, never really had to many problems.

I would see it really only in how the guild is ran and how the attitudes are molded from the get go. Some people are just impatient, if you are dealing with more laid back ppl like yourself, chances are everyone's gonna be laxed with you and not really feel pressed to gogogo.

On the bad end of the stick, you do run in to guilds that are just pressuring. The "you must be on," you this, you that, etc etc.. Or even the guilds that end up in your alliance that just treat a guild like trash. Those situations tend to prove so negative at times that they make the feeling of being in a guild inapplicable for some individuals. All you can really do, is just bob and weave until you find the right guild for you. If you joined a guild and left w/in the first two weeks, that would be understandable, due to the fact you are just trying to get a feel if that is what is for you. So, don't get discouraged, in a lot of cases it's nice to not have to PUG or wait for a team and be able to pull the troops together to help you out w/any aspect of the game >

there are some good guilds out there guys, it just takes time to find them. the guild i am in now was formed due to the exact reasons which you all have stated: hating immature people, idle guilds, and petty arguements. The ones in the guild right now are very knowledgable people..we have organized events in order to make guild activities fun (after all, this is a GAME right?). If you think all guilds are immature etc, then you havent found the right guild. Just my 2 cents

I generally do the one man guild.I have yet to find a guild that does 1/20th what they advertise.Guilds are about numbers.GL and officers just want the slots filled. The kick in the butt is they dont do much to keep folks in them.I just joined a guild last week.In the first 4 hrs of being in the guild I helped on more mission/quest then everyone else combined. There were plenty of officers and others on but farming and recruiting were more important. This is pretty typical of any guild I have been in.
I dont expect everyone to drop everything their doing when some one ask for help but if you say your a helpful guild then back it up.Oh and that dont mean giving them fow armor or Vanni in NF.
I am strickly PVE and so maybe I look at it differently. Also have completed all three games numerous times. For some reason some people in guilds are afraid to jump into missions besides low level ones.Trips me out.I do strickly hero/hench myself but alot of folks in guilds want some help and dont get it.
(Steps off soap box)I am back in a one man guild.Doesnt seem any different then being in one with a bunch of people.
