That's exactly the sense I got from his post and why I addressed my comments to some of the people who tried to validate his actions rather than to him. He knows it wasn't okay to do. It's the people who say it was that I worry about. I have two words for those people: Golden Rule.

Btw, Kuldebar, I'm not taking the time today to elaborate, but you are very eloquently reflecting my own thoughts and feelings on the subject, and I am very much enjoying your posts here. To your great comments about the false sense of security some people feel from anonymity on the internet, I'd like to add that the universe still knows who they are and sees what they do. And the universe keeps a balance book... what goes around comes around, which is a very good reason, if for no other reason, to observe the Golden Rule.

He technically didn't get anything free. He got extra money out of it. And he had to break an oral (typed, w/e) deal to do it. Not only did he just lose out on any potential deals with this person in the future (more if they tell their guildies and friends not to deal with him) he has given himself doubts about his own character. So, yeah, he had to do something to get that cheeseburger and it wasn't free.

That doesn't happen when you're honest and have decency. Try to understand that.
If scared, step back and prepare again before additional attempt.

This is the reason I NEVER EVER "agree" and say "deal" at anytime in-game. I like to cover my own ass that way. It's only a deal when both parties press the "ACCEPT" button in trade. Other then that I can decline/backoff/dismiss any transactions beforehand simply because I don't put myself in such a situation. Just like in real-life. If my name isn't signed on that piece of document it's invalid. If I don't see anything in writing at work nothing passes through. I never make verbal agreements with strangers and make myself accountable for it.

I never make promises I can't keep.

*I bet there are at least a few hyprocrites in this thread*

I see no problem with OP. I had the same thing happen to me often but don't put much of a thought into it. It's human nature to be greedy.

You said Deal in the first place, you actually said you wanted to give him the item for the price, but then someone offered more and you valued money over dignity, its not a ban able offense but it still makes you one big greed. :P

@lakatz , i wasn't saying that he did that or not, i was saying why it could be believed he was trying to scam.

I would do the exact thing, about my first part of my post i was reffering to people trying to teach OP morals, which i believe is out of place.

My point is that we knows now what the deal is about, so its his decision on what he decides to do the next time this pops up.( i know i will just take the higher bid)

I get it. I also get that this player got a chance to make more money, in a video game. A video game where the only real way to make money is to either sell your things at extremely low prices and cheat yourself or sit in town for hours trying to get your message in among the endless streams of WTS WTS WTS. This game does not have an auction house, the game has no serious means to exchange items with other players, the entire trade system is a joke and is almost non-functional.

All these holy rollers in here acting all high and mighty are out of touch with the fact that what he did was AT WORST trivialy not nice. To the rest of the gaming population they would take A over B if B were higher.

Its that simple, and its pretty amusing how this thread is on course to become a bible study soon. Selling to the highest bidder? Is that really that bad? Saying "Deal" is not a contract. Its not like he scammed anyone, if he had sold someone a Mursaat Token instead of an Ecto because they look similar I would be on board, but getting mad at someone for taking a better deal?

WOW. Im washing my hands with this thread. My goodness. I could have been playing the game instead of typing this message.

I tend to agree with the others on here. One thing you learn in life is once you've made the agreement, stick to your guns. Otherwise, your word is meaningless.

It's a matter of honesty. Come to a price and stop. There are enough greedy people in this game. It screws it over for the honest people who want to trade at a fair price.

If you took nothing from him, it is not a scam... you just changed your mind... Not good trading to tell guy-1 he's got it... then sell to guy-2... But in the long run, it's your item... trade it how you want
