Default More then one character

I have noticed a lot of people make more then one character. Why is this. I mean after you finished building up yuor main character and got the primary and secondary the way you liked it is there really a reason to make more characters. I don't knwo why someone would want to work so hard and then just start all over again. DO most people do this or do they just build up one character?

Most people, nearly all, make more than one character.
It's mainly because they want to use different professions and play different campagins.

IMO, every profession requires a different skill management and provides a different play experience that prevents boredom. I have 10 character slots; three mules for storage and seven that I play - abt 2100 hours over 14 months.

To me, the ones I picked are mostly parts of my personality that get to come out and play. A couple of them are still in the iffy stage.

1. warrior - great stress relief just banging away at monsters; she has about 1/2 of the total play hours and is well into most of the titles

2. mesmer - an enjoyable time; great for taking down mobs without getting your clothes mussed and leaving me relaxed and smiling

3. monk - helpful, cheerful

4. ranger - a lot of pre-planning in skill setup; details are important

5. necro - serious, devout

6. dervish - almost finished NF with her, but still undecided what she represents in me

7. ritualist - created her with start of Factions, but another iffy one.

And there you go. My reasons for multiple characters.

Lots of reasons to make new characters - try a new build, learn a new class, use nice items you've picked up in your travels, and like dansamy said... play dress up!

Dress up <3 That's what I do most of the time.

It's also fun playing different professions, trying out their skills, seeing new ways of handing the quests and missions. I have 10 character slots (one empty, one for a mule) and I enjoy playing every character through the campaigns over again. When you finish all three campaigns with one character, it's refreshing to go back and do it all over with another. Because it takes so long, you have time to forget some of the quests and missions.

And some of my characters I just run to the nearest good-looking armor by playing the smallest amount of missions needed. Yeah.

12 characters or is it 13, and 4 or 5 mules....(17 slots)
why create more.....started with and ele, well then I wanted to play mesmer, but I hadnt gotten to the point where I could change secondaries....so I made a mesmer, then necro looked good.....and then a guildee complained about the lack of monks....that was my first 4, then factions came out, made a rit, and a ranger (liked the looks better, and my mes had ranger as secondary so I wanted to try it as primary).....well I liked rit so I wanted a rit secondary character, so another mesmer was born......and wanted a girl monk (didnt like the monks options for girls in prophecy, not into buns on my head)....so I made a female monk in factions.....well I really liked playing rit so I made a rt/w----had to be male! and nightfall came out, made a paragon....made a dervish and deleted it....made another ele and another mesmer (ok I get carried away with making new characters, but its a lot of fun to do it).
oh, yeah where this is going.
there are currently 10 classes to play....if you just make one of each thats 10 characters....now mix up the secondaries (this was before you could change on a whim)....and thats, ugh too many to figure out at 2am

Lots of people like to make new characters to have ones in every chapter, some people like to make characters of both sexes, some people just like to play the game with a different character-----tons and tons of reasons to have more than one. Personally if I had only been able to make one character and had to play that one the whole game, I would be bored out of my gourd! Its nice to change from killing to kiting (ok not so much fun), to minion factory.....to healing the party----its all different skills involved. Playing a warrior requires different skills than monking or casting, and sometimes I just like to sit in back and shoot arrows at the monsters and let the tanks and casters do their jobs..
(ps I pve not pvp, that might be different, I have no idea).

I like having more than one character so that I can know more about them. I have a PvE of all professions except Mesmer, though I do play mesmer in PvP. It helps keep me from getting bored, and allows me to play my other characters better by knowing what I'm up against.

However, I still have almost half my time spent on my Necromancer, since he is both my first and favorite character.

I have found the one Ilike and do not think I willl get bored with it. I plan to use the same one through all the campaigns. Is there anything wrong with that? I mean why work so hard spend hundreds of hours on one character if your just going to start all over again?

have one character makes you know very little about the game. I can play almost every profession. most of my characters havent finished all the games, and i dont really care, building them up is the fun part.

Not for me. I don't like my effort going to waste. Who c ares if you get a better knowledge if you waste hundred of hours just to start over to get a better understanding?

Because all that level up and fully built in GW takes 3 weeks for the first character, and under a week for others. It's not like other games where you grind for 3 months to reach the cap.

There is also not one build that you could make. Too many areas require adjustments, let alone hard-mode or elite missions.

In addition, it's usually not viable to play with one character only, class requirements vary, build popularities change, so it's useful to have options.

being able to have all the secondaries with a character is not the same as having a character of each primary. playing a monk primary versus a necro primary vs a warrior primary are all completely different. the secondary just gives you access to that profession's skills but not to their armor, primary profession attribute, or being able to max out a stat in that secondary to 16 since you can't use runes of your secondary profession.

myself, I have 10 characters, 1 of each class, that I play and then 31 mules (with another copy of prophecies and nightfall that I haven't added yet)

Some of us need something to spend money on.

I have a ton of characters to be versatile. It only takes a few hours for me to get them to level 20, get them max armor, and fully equip them... So why not make more? Minimal effort for maximum effectiveness.

iof you plan on staying on just one char i can see you getting bored of the game even tho you say you won't i thin kyou will once you have finished all three campains and pretty much learned everyuthing you can from your one char your going to start logging on to the game and going to start saying to yourself hmm when can i do then think man i have done like everything then you learn there are some quests and stuff you can only do with different professions whih will change up the game then i see you if a bit actully start other char's and once you learn about them you may actully like that char better then your first then think hmm i wonder if the other char will be better and start new ones and so forth

You're not going to get much experience of the games mechanics by just using a wammo!

10 chars, 2 mules, only 3 are really played though. I find it hard to really get going on some of them, because most of the time, I'd rather just do it on my ele. I have actually made a character to get an armor, but I usually end up playing them more eventually.
