Default General question from a prospective player...

Hey all, I was hoping I could get some solid advice really quick about GW from people who actually play it. Simple really, is the game worth buying for someone who is a casual gamer at best (5-8 hours a week)?

I've been looking into MMO's again now for awhile ever since I quit WoW back in Nov. of 2006. My only problem is this...the games eat my life. I'll admit it, I'm an addictive player. So I've been hesitant to start playing a game that can do that, but I'm tired of buying games that I beat in a week or two. Since the game is free online play, I know I really have nothing to lose except the price of the game which I'll prolly wind up spending on another game in a few weeks. But still, I was hoping the people who actually play could tell me if I was wasting my money first.

Worth it for a casual player or not?

Thanks in advance,
Maskingdestiny

Yep, it's very casual player-friendly. Since there's no monthly fee, you don't have to worry as much about getting your money's worth.

If you start with Prophecies (the original), you won't beat the PvE story-line part of the game very quickly only playing 5 - 8 hours a week. it may take you a couple of months at that rate. Then again, the game can be quite addictive, so you may be spending more time than you want to playing it. (Reaching Max level is not the end of the game. Reaching the highest level is just the beginning of the fun.)

But the Story-line is only one part of GW. There are tons of side quests, weekend events, and high-end areas that are quite challenging. Also, once you complete the story-line, you'll be able to do it all over again in Hard Mode, a very good challenge.

GW is also very strong on the PvP side. There's 4 or 5 different types of PvP you can get into, and each one works differently.

I think Kook said pretty much everything anyone could =P

GW is probably one of the most casual-player friendly MMOs out there right now, probably forever. If you have 5-8 hours a week, GW is probably the best MMO for you

Well, I decided I'm gonna give it a shot. Another question...is it built around picking a specific server like the rest of the MMO's? If so, is there any way to tell which server is the most populated so you can maximize your chances of playing with someone when the time comes?

its not server specific, but you will be region specific ie euro, USA etc.. however you are allowed a limited number of moves between regions if you felt the need too. Its also worth noting that we have international districts, so if you have mates on US servers, and you're on Euro, you can meet and play with them that way

Thanks for the advice and quick replies. Seems like GW or at least this site has a pretty decent community, something else to look forward to after the OMFGZOR11!!!11eleven!! l33t d00ds of WoW and the insane power-gamers of EQ.

Just wanted to let the OP know that I bought Prophecies and Nightfall last night and after finally being able to connect, this is one of the most awesome games I've played. It's funny how a couple of hours can go by, and not even feel like it's been that long It also doesn't take very long to level up, I noticed
