Recommend? Nightfall? - Guild Wars Forums

Okay, I am a former WoW player, it got all too boring and plus keeping up with the payment so I stopped playing about a month and a half ago. But recently I went back online and it was still boring, then Guild wars came to mind and now I want to start playing. I read I didn't need the first two and can start out with nightfall. Is that a good idea? any suggestions?

Well you could either start with Nightfall or wait for that Diamond Pack or something. It contains the original (Prophecies) and the expansion Eye of the North.

Of course, you could do both.

It's called the Platinum Edition.

If you look around I am more than sure you could find 2 out of 3 if not all 3 for under $80.

I would say if you had to pick one Nightfall isn't a bad choice. You get heroes, inscriptions for your weapons, the newest skins and access to DOA, but of course every chapter has it's perks.

As for guilds, it depends on what you're into. There are PVE guilds here and you can put out an ad of sorts here for a PVE guild, but if you're into PVP there are guilds looking here and you can put your own ad out for one here .
You can also try looking in game, but I'd recommend you look on the forums first. At least here you can get an idea about who the people are and their reputation.

Or you could buy Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and GW:EN

I've just returned to GW after an extended break playing WoW, and I've decided to go with all the chapters. I only took a short while to get my new chars to lvl 20 and deck them out with some decent shizzle. Nightfall is my favourite though.

do not just get nightfall. prophecies is the only one of the three with a starting area for new players. if you start in nightfall you wont know how to play.

Yeah, I been thinking about it, after i posted that i looked around for more info and decided to go with prophecies first. then factions then nightfall.

If you've bought prophecies, then that's fine. But if you haven't bought it yet, you may want to consider getting nightfall.

GWEN's coming out in like 2 weeks, and alot of players are going to be there, so other areas will have less people to play with. And GWEN may require you to have a lvl20 character to play, and prophecies is the slowest to level up in. Factions is the quickest to level up in, but its very short and linear. Nightfall is a good inbetween, gives you time to learn how to play but also gives you a chance to level if you get all the quests.

Prophecies is also probably the poorest money wise too. Factions and nightfall quests give more cash for quest rewards, and nightfall you can get to the 12 free treasures and trade contracts for gems you can sell for cash.

You do get skill quests (free skills) in prophecies, but you can also get free skills in nightfall with hero skill points and factions you can buy most of your skills as soon as you reach the mainland. That is, more skills are available for purchase early in factions.

Nightfall also gives you heroes, AI companions you can customise, so you can learn a bit about how other classes work, as well as giving you some backup if there aren't many players about in the area.

Anyway, whatever chapter you bought, welcome to guildwars.

I would recommend Prophecies. (The first Guild Wars game) It has a great storyline and it makes sense to play through the first part of the storyline first. It also has the best introductions to new players. (Pre-searing ascalon)

When you played through the storyline of Prophecies, you can always decide to get Nightfall (and/or Factions) later on.

Prophecies is definitely the best one to start out with if you're brand new to the GW experience. The starting area doesn't give you a UI tutorial like Factions and Nightfall does, but it does give you plenty of time to learn game mechanics and how your chosen professions work (and plenty of weak monsters to test yourself against).

Though I would also definitely recommend Factions. While Factions is very fast paced and doesn't give you much time to learn before you get thrown in at the deep end, as a PvP primer it's unmatched.

Okay, well if i need to be lv 20 for GWEN, would it be better to get factions first since you said its quickest to lv. From the info i got on factions, i kinda actually wanna get that one the most. Since its short, which is good for me since i dont have a whole lot of time. Plus like you said, its quickest to lv. Also i like it that its like asian like with assasians. But from what I hear, it sucks...idk. I also like mideavil stuff too. Lol I wanna play them all but i dont have all the time and money. Prophecies seem cool too, but i hear its too ong, that may be good but i dont wanna spend all my time on the first one when everyone is having fun on another unless theres alot of people that play the first one? idk, but i think ill still go with prophecies, that or get the free trial thing at gamestop, would that be best? i can learn to play from that right?

get prophecies. you can play GWEN when you learn how to play. its not for new players. its an expansion for the people who know how to play.

I just bought Factions and i think its better, it wasnt hard to learn the basics from there...anyone could start playing factions and understand easily....Ty guys for making me waste my money on proph...lol proph is still cool.

Gw:en is the only campaign that doesnt have a noob area and training... Pre ascalon isnt really much different then the first island in nightfall or factions. If you need more detailed infos just open up Guildwiki simple as that. Youllproblly have it open all the time anyway, i know i did for a while.

But anyway i deff would advise nightfall as well, its the funnest imo. Tho gwen is rather interesting as of yet.

I could, but I dislike lying. Part of starting an MMO is learning from your own mistakes anyways. And there's no easier place to make them than out in the fields, not in some cut-and-dry coddling course.
