you CANT cap an elite in pre-sear!

simple as that...earliest elite to cap in prophecies is northern shiverpeaks - leave pre-searing and join the rest of the world in the tormented future:P

you get sig of capture at the earliest in lions arch - past northern shiverpeaks!

you need to play through an amount of the game before you can even contemplate getting an elite!
only a few elites in pre- but no sig of capture available!

You can also get the Signet of Capture from your Guild Hall, if you have a Skill Trainer, straight after you leave Pre-Searing. You just can't cap an Elite there as none are present in that area.

The first elite skills in Prophecies become available to cap in the desert missions; this is quite a long way into the game. Don't worry too much; elite skills may be powerful, but you won't really need them on your bar until this point in the game anyway.

You will be able to get your first signet of capture in Lion's Arch though - help a local mage out with some excavation work and he'll give you a signet of capture (and after you use your first signet of capture he'll give you a second one for free too - though all other signets of capture after these two freebies need to be bought).

You can get an elite skill from Lornar's pass, just outside Beacon's perch.

But killing the boss might be a problem.

True, but Lornar's Pass is counted as part of the Southern Shiverpeaks, a game area that's much more difficult and designed to come after the Crystal Desert. The bosses in that area of Lornar's Pass are also present much deeper into the mountains where they're easier to kill (bigger party size and higher level henchies around the other capture locations).

So for practicality's sake, I'd say that the first accessible elites were in the desert missions.

Not exactly true. There are 7 in Dragon's Gullet and one in Maguuma Jungle.

You can also get Signet of Capture from certain quests:
*Lion's Arch-Malaquire's Test
*Kaineng City-Minister's Test
*Capturing the Signet of Capture

Simply follow what they tell you in the quest, or if you dont have the quest- kill a boss (glowing aura) that is the same profession (primary or secondary) as you>stand near the body>use the Signet of Capture>choose the skill you want to learn > Accept/Learn/Capture
