I have two accounts, so whenever my primary account amasses more than 20k I stick it into the mule account and forget about it.

I second the cartographer post, that was a huge moneymaker for me as well.

Oh, and btw, keys do not exist. That one statement has saved me hundreds of thousands of gold.

Qft. The only reason you should be opening chests is for the title, you'll never get rich from loot, really, without a great deal of luck.

Making money is less of a problem compared to keeping it for most people.

The strategy on keeping is having clear goals on what you want and how much you need for it.
If you want let's say 15K armor, you need 15K + materials.
Say you can make 1K/day playing (which is very doable), you would have one piece in two weeks (considering you get the materials from drops and salvages).
Meaning for 5 pieces you have about 2.5 months of saving ahead.
If you decide to spend half of your earnings on other things, you double that time to 5 months.

The most important rule for this is knowing what you need.
You need: max Armor, decent weapon (drops or collectors will do).
Very nice to have: runes (not radiant and other generic, just the profession specific)
Furter investment: Salvage and id kits
That's all you need to play the game.
The rest of the items is not more than nice to have and not worth it if you want to save for a larger goal.

I agree with the others on the carto title, it's a good source of income.

sorry, but how does cartography make money, apart from doing it in HM and vanquishing at the same time? ive never gone and wallhugged enough to get higher than 60% of tyria, and im at about 15% of cantha on my sin. do you get money for finishing a continent? and for the people who mentioned keys, i dont use them. if i get a lockpick drop when im HM farming, ill use it, but since my luck is low as hell for chests, i stick to only opening HM chests for the chance of getting a tome.

yeah, ive been saving my money, but i just recently had to drop like 7k into getting max armor for my warrior, and that dropped my cash pile down to about 1k. time to start saving again........ :P

EDIT: before someone makes a smart comment, the extra 2k was for materials.

Buy ID kits and ID every single near max/max white drop you get, it may seem odd but ID'ing a white can add about 40-50g value onto it, and doing this to the 100 ID's you can get from an ID kit it means u make an extra 4k, take away 500g for your next kit and u got 3.5k for doing nothing!

The joy of white drops

El Cheapo's Guide to Guild Wars:

1) Nevery buy keys or lockpicks.
2) Don't use your free lockpicks in EotN NM.
3) Equip your heroes with collector, imperfect, or common skinned weapons.
4) Use Factions and Nightfall tokens to exchange for Identify and Salvage kits.
5) Identify all coloured armour. The useful runes will stack up.
6) Use the cheapest runes for your heroes, even if it is a Major rune.
7) Have one set of Superior Salvage, Normal Salvage and Superior Identify in your Xunlai Chest to share between all your characters. This saves you 3 slots per character.
8) Make full use of Heroes as storage. Every hero wielding two-handed weapons can carry an off-hand item. Use Heroes to store runes.
9) Manage your storage space so you can pick up everything, including Whites. Sell everything.
10) Do Factions, Nightfall and EotN quests. Prophesies quests do not give much gold.
11) Do every single Prophesies skill quest for all six core professions, do not spend unnecessary gold on hero skills.
12) Do PvP (AB?) to unlock more skills for heroes.
13) Use Hero Skill Points to get skills for yourself and your heroes.
14) Use cheap normal Tomes where possible.
15) Capture Elites instead of using Elite Tomes where possible.
16) Play through the game instead of being run.
17) Hitch a ride on free trial runs when possible. I have gotten free trial runs to LA from Beacon, Sanctum Cay from ToA, full S. Shiverspeak tour (Marhan Grotto too), half Desert tour.
18) Use collector armour until you get to the max armour town.
19) Dislike the look of 15k armour so you never need to get them.
20) Dislike the look of rare skin weapons so you never need to get them.
21) Never say no to free sub-optimal Greens and imperfect Golds. Heroes cannot complain.
22) Play random quiz games in the major cities for prize gold. I won 2k once.
23) Exchange 10 Kournan Pendants for 400gold Exp. scrolls. Sell them.
24) Keep all useful collector drops, even if you don't have the number you need now.
25) Do not salvage unless you need the materials.

I'm sure I forgot a load more, will update where possible.

Make sure you only ID max/near-max whites, though, otherwise the gain is only 5-10 gold, and that's not really worth it. Tho to think of it, 500 gold = 100 IDs = 5 gold per ID, so I suppose any gain over 5 gold is in your profit.

If you buy lock picks and do chest runs in and around Gates of Desolation, you'll gain your money back and then some. You also get the benefit of gaining those titles too (sunspear and lightbringer) if you remember to activate the bonuses.

An othernice way to get money is this:
I hope u know FFF go do FFF en than u get in an guild.
The req for the moneymaker=The Guild Needs To Own An Place.
Then u can get in an place only for YOUR alliance and guild.
U see there an merchant. He sell stuf for not so much cash...
If you gonna buy Lockpicks for 1,2k i thought they were or such cheaper you just sell for some more you think 100 gold more for each lockpick thats not much but if you got an big amount of lockpicks like 100 you lost 1,2kx100=120k if you sell for 1,4k or something you got 140k maybe the lockpicks ar such cheaper and u sell them for 1,2k and u buy for 750 gold maybe that is but u get really rich if u can hold that.
