Trading. Farming never makes you seriously rich.

Got my first set farming ecto. It didn't even require shards back then. Got the rest of my sets through trading- much quicker, even with the cost of the materials being much higher back then. Very easy to make enough for a set in a short space of time if you know what you are doing.

Yup. As Malice said, you can get money from farming to some point, but to get seriously rich, you got to have some lucky drops too. ^^

Back in the day for me - used to make money running people in Tyria. Back when the southern shiverpeaks run was 10k a person (party of 7) for all stops. Running still makes money - but not nearly as much as it used to. Mission escorts for masters and/or in HM can make you some good coin too. But yup, overall trading, looking for deals and being wise about it is the best way.

<-------- Seriously rich from farming. You just have to know what to sow

But, that was before farming got nerfed. Probably not a good bet now.

I always wondered how farming was nerfed. What did Anet do, sow the fields with salt? Always confused me.

Southern Shiverpeak Runs ftw btw. You could make 80 k in an hour. It was awesome. That, or world runs back when they were big. Half a mill in like, 4 hours. Pretty epic. Now I just do Hero FFF when I have the time, working on Legendary Survivor and making money at the same time is win.

Ecto price differential trading.

That was the fastest money I ever made.

Oh you poor bastard Americans, you never knew what hit you

I do services for people. Masters... runs... etc...

Know when you are wasting your time and when you are not. If you are not making at least 15k an hour in guild wars you are doing something wrong. An Underworld clearing takes around an hour and nets you a guaranteed ecto at the end... not to mention that you normally get a couple dropped to you during the actual clearing.

Depends on what you call seriously rich...

I guesstimate I've gone into tripe figure millions if you add ecto/braces and items. That is serious rich. A few million in gold and some leets items is just rich, many people have that.

OMG! 15K, I'm really confused, because I'm farming with my necro and I don't get 5K an hour.

Yeah, I'm crap at making money, in comparison to the above.

I found that it's possible to scrounge up the money to get nice/elite armours through a series of vanquishing, (free) chest running, doing missions, salvaging and selling stacks of materials, doing dungeons and farming rank 5 in most of the GW:EN titles. Got myself *counts*...9? Nine elite sets that way or there abouts.

farming can make you rich: first people who farmed the raptor nestling could sell the elemental swords for 100k+
and Malice can't be counted to the majority of the people when it comes to money >.<

I farmed 400k a day during the first days of the 600/smite runs at cathedral of flames. People were initially paying 3.5k a run each. I used a hero smiter... and the run itself took 45 minutes... I got at least three gold a run myself, excluding the end chest (when the Mauraki's Reaver was 15k). I got my FoW in no time for my new monk and also maxed a title at the same time (Dwarven). I sold all the Golden Rin Relics and Superb Charr Carvings and walked away with a good chunk... began powertrading and now I just sit back and do UW or DoA runs.

As many people have suggested previously, the only way to make a lot of money in GW is trading. Seriously. Powertrading is the way to go. Try it sometime, don't id your golds and sell them to someone unid for more. Keep doing that. Get into HM as soon as possible and started getting those drops that will make your account grow. Don't stick in overfarmed areas farming for Elemental Swords thinking that it will make you rich. Getting that one Eternal Blade will make those five req9 Elemental Swords look like iron ingots.

Meh, if only I had saved up my money for one char than 8. =(

I'm still trying to prove that Z-chests can make you infinitely rich as well.

Otherwise, good luck with trades. Piggies for example, jumped up a whole crapload, so it's pretty relative on what you decide to sell immediately, and what you decide to keep. Piggies made a profit if you kept them, but I lost money keeping my elemental sword. There are booms and busts, just like the real world.
