Does anybody know the approximate % chance of obtaining rare materials from salvagables vs. basic materials when using an expert salvage kit?

Nope but if you want basic materials just use a basic salvage kit.

I have checked the wiki and I haven't found what I need. I'm looking to acquire rare materials, no basics. As such, I need to know about how many salvagables I need based on the chance that salvaging them will give me the rare materials I want or the basic materials I do not. So yeah, original question stands. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

by applying a "Measure for Measure" inscription to your items (if they're inscribable) you can almost guarantee you will get rare (if not alot of rare) crafting materials.

There isn't a single universal probability of getting rare materials. Instead, every salvageable item has its own chance. Some of them have a very high chance (e.g. spider webs from the Zelnehlun farm salvage into silk with ~90% probability) and some quite low (like getting a ruby from a Ruby Djinn Essence with less than 5% probability). Also, there's always some possibility of getting twice the normal amount of materials, even with rare materials (I've personally salvaged 2 rubies from a Ruby Maul and 2 sapphires from a pair of Jeweled Daggers).

Nobody is going to salvage 1000 pieces of every salvageable item in the game to find a decent estimate for the item specific probability distribution, so if you need some figures it's up to you to do the field work

As tmakinen said, it varies based on the item being salvaged. Some items I ALWAYS get a rare material from, some I have NEVER gotten a rare material from. My 2 examles are Spider Webs (as tmakinen mentioned, I always get Silk), and Geodes (although possible, I have never gotten a gem).

If you are after a certain rare material, people may have experience with getting that item from a particular salvage item. For instance, if you want Leather, I get about a 35-40% chance of getting Leather from the armor the undead rangers drop ourside Bergen Hotsprings.

Maybe let us know what you are after, we can give you info on that item.

Rare Crafting Materials

If you click on Bolt of Silk, for example, it will bring you the the info page for silk. It also has a link to show you everything that contains silk. Contains silk

It can be helpful to browse these pages when you are looking for rare crafting materials - I have sold lots of things to the merchant for pennies when I should have been salvaging.

Haha. Somebody must have read my mind. Nowhere in my posts did I mention silk, yet three people mention it anyways. That's indeed what I'm looking for. Thanks to tmakinen and MagmaRed for the solid answers.
